FFS, I read the book years ago, and thought thank fuck we don't live there now. But the tv series has made realise that, yes, it is now. Despite the plot holes, the coming together of women as the resistance throughout the series has been wonderful. There is no mistake, we are at war at the moment and the trans issue has brought it to the surface in a way I never thought I would see in my lifetime. What the men pretending to be women, and all the politicians who are supporting them, don't realise is that we, as women, keep this country going. We don't realise our power, but now we need to. We can't let them take our spaces and our children, whether we are mothers or not. We can't. So we need to come to come together politically and sort this. The time for allowing our nurturing instincts, which make everyone human, to keep us back is over. We are women and we need to NOT allow this bullying, coercive movement to take out rights and our children over. NO.

I can't speak out because of my job (oh Lord that I don't believe in, please let me win the lottery, because I will be unleashed) but I am speaking round my meeting tables (in a way that make me want to puke) but we can all donate to Fair Play to Women, and all the fantastic female activists who are being targeted. My dream is for women to sit the fuck down, and show the primarily male politicians (looking at you Mairi Black - for SHAME) that we are a force to be reckoned with. Because we are.

I'm missing it already OP but The Testaments (the book and sequel) comes out soon, I've heard it's set when time has passed so it will be interesting to see what Atwood has done with June and where she has taken the story.

I loved the symbol of the women throwing rocks at the men with guns and winning. It feels powerful even though they are silenced and it is like a mirror is being held up to society, for those in the know anyway.

If it all goes to shit, look me up, I'll be a Martha working the underground networks and most likely wearing a muzzle and I won't speak a word of compelled speech.

(If you haven't read The Vox and The Power you might enjoy those too.)

It's just a damn shame, and very perplexing, that Atwood has guzzled long and hard at the Kool aid as far as things trans are concerned. 🤷‍♀️
