That's it really. Just discovered this yesterday. Documentary about second wave feminism. Fab.

Thanks - will add that to my list

Sounds worth a watch!

It's a terrible title imo - but, as someone who was active as a feminist in the early 80's I recognised so many names of women who'd inspired me - and lots about artist Judy Chicago and her amazing installation "the dinner party" - called pornographic by members of Congress (!) my best friend and I saw it when it came to London - it was jaw droppingly excit8ng and inspiring.

I even got a bit teary towards the end, listening to something Jane Fonda says (and I don't do teary on the whole). I'd also never heard the story behind the movie 9 to 5. Made me look at it in quite a different light!

Women discovering the joys of sisterhood and the power of female friendships. At least I suppose we can thank the TRAs for waking us up to that again. And no, that's not even mentioned, it's an irrelevance in the context of this documentary, but blimey, it really resonated with me.

Thanks for the tip, that documentary was inspiring and moving, but also has left me depressed. How the fuck have we ended up where we are now?

dianebrewster · 28/08/2019 06:45

We dropped the ball. Well some of us did, and I include myself in that.

I fought and I taught, and then I got married and had children. I noted that Women's Studies had become Gender studies but I'd moved on into computer science. I naively assumed that this was a broadening of the feminist critique that I was familiar with. I had no idea that it was being replaced by such a toxic ideology. I saw the gains we had made, I had no idea that they were so fragile.

Thank you. Will check it out

I too thought the war had largely been won, certainly as far as women in the West were concerned, but I was wrong.

I realise now, somewhat depressingly, that as the saying goes The price of freedom is eternal vigilence.

The upside, however, is the resurgence of proper women's lib style feminism and the strength, friendship and support that ordinary women can find when they come together to try and change things and protect the rights of women and girls - that's something amazing to be part of.

I'll be checking this out OP to see how the foremothers did it, thanks for the recommend!
