This is so distressing and the police yet again failed this woman. I honestly have no words.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 23/08/2019 09:39

Martin was not classed as a serial domestic violence offender; Detective Sergeant Smith said that to be classed as a serial offender he would have had to have assaulted two different women in a year

So the man was deemed not to be dangerous because he only beat his wife up regularly and no one else. Ffs.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 23/08/2019 10:13

I was also struck my Kay's mother railing against a description of "two victims".

Rest In Peace, Kay Thanks

Wurzelsnewhead · 23/08/2019 10:14

The article states that for bail purposes he needed to have been classed as a serial domestic violence offender ie attacked two different women in one year.
Why do the police have this criteria in place? Is attacking one woman repeatedly not enough? What value is being placed on women?

I think the police do their best in difficult circumstances, but there is something seriously wrong with a system that so easily enabled a violent man to murder a woman.

zebrasdontwearbras · 23/08/2019 10:24

Fucking hell. All the signs were there - repeated reports of attacks, repeated violation of non-molestation orders. What the hell does a man have to do to be considered a risk?

I'm sick of reading about incidences where the police have seriously failed women.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/08/2019 10:39

The part about having to attacked more than one person is just bizarre, not something I'd heard of before. It's almost like it's considered ok to regularly beat up 'your' woman.HmmAngry

Imnobody4 · 23/08/2019 10:47

The part about having to attacked more than one person is just bizarre
Surely that can't be right.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/08/2019 10:58

I wonder if it stems from a misinterpretation/misapplication of this?

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/10/21/domestic-abusers-stalkers-should-sign-national-register-like/

Referring to:
publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmhaff/1015/1015.pdf

Tracking and registering men who serially abuse different women is a good idea, but it shouldn't have any bearing whatever on whether a man is a danger to one specific woman who he has serially abused.

Wurzelsnewhead · 23/08/2019 16:04

Thanks Errol, that’s an interesting point.
I do wonder if the police should be/ are obliged to tell complainants that offenders have been released, may well have made a difference in this case. Otherwise it all seems to be skewed in favour of the abuser.

yulet · 23/08/2019 16:09

That is fucking awful.

However, legally, could the police have just taken his keys away? I mean, it was still his house, wasn't it?

FermatsTheorem · 23/08/2019 16:21

I read this too. I fucking despair, I really do. It's only serial offences if it's multiple victims. WTAF? And giving him his keys back.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 23/08/2019 16:55

Bastards. Fucking hell.
