Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

the silly SRA diversity questionnaire for solicitors

This has (finally) reached me. The two questions of relevance here are:

3 What gender do you identify with?

and

  1. do you consider your own gender identity to be different from that associated with your sex as registered at birth.

In both cases there is a prefer not to say option. Can I crowd-source a quick bit of guidance - seems to me like prefer not to say covers my position (gender critical). There is no space for comments.

The only other option seems to be to refuse to fill in the questionnaire but that seems a shame because there are sensible questions in it too (eg are you someone's primary carer?)

I'd probably go for the prefer not to say.

I wouldn't want to reify the nonsense by giving an answer.

OhHimAgain · 22/08/2019 15:00

Is it online or written?

Because I might be inclined to state that I can't answer the question because I don't have a 'gender identity'. So the question is meaningless to me.

online so I guess we're going prefer not to say.

At least it doesn't say "sex assigned at birth". and it does use the word sex.

I don't understand what benefit this is supposed to have. They haven't asked a clear question, its pointless.

God what a load of old tripe.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 22/08/2019 23:34

Isn’t the question the equivalent of

Would you rather be beaten by a shoe or a hairbrush or would you prefer not to say?

It doesn’t allow you the option to say I don’t want to be beaten at all.

Complain.

FFSFFSFFS · 23/08/2019 08:19

Surely any female who is working as a legal services provider is gender non conforming and is having a gender identity crisis.

This INFURIATES me btw. As someone said - what is even the point of these questions.

AncientLights · 23/08/2019 08:28

Number 3 is a bit easier than 4 - I don't consider I have a 'gender identity' at all, the mere word 'identity' now makes me shudder, I would definitely choose 'prefer not to say'.

Number 4: in view of the answer above which states I don't have one of these 'identities', I couldn't answer that either. But then it goes on about association at birth - is this how females were viewed 60+ years ago in East Anglia? Or in 2019 where I now live?

Piffle paffle wiffly waffly rubbish - how could anyone answer such stupid questions sensibly?

So 2x 'prefer not to say' votes from me too.

MrsBertBibby · 23/08/2019 08:32

I answer prefer not to say to everything. I don't want my employers knowing this stuff.

MinecraftMother · 25/08/2019 22:40

I still have to go through this bullshit questionnaire at work. Sigh.

Kazooboohoo · 25/08/2019 22:48

Can't you ask to fill in a paper copy (it must be discriminatory to make you fill it online)? I would then cross out both questions and probably fill in 3: "Sex: female" and 4: *This is nonsense, sex is immutable"

mement0mori · 26/08/2019 09:48

That's interesting because the General Dental Council (GDC) have recently included the question:

"Is your gender identity the same as the gender you were assigned at birth?"

I ticked "prefer not to say" which isn't entirely true but there was not an "other" option and no open text box either.

I wonder if all the regulators are doing the same.

It's annoying though being asked a question in a way that you cannot give a genuine answer.
