Whatever happened to...loose ends, not forgotten

The Jameela Jamil thread being bumped reminded me there are several issues that have dropped off the radar that I’m sure certain people are hoping will just be forgotten. So does anyone have an update on (apologies if missed):

• Jess Bradley getting penis out in public
• NSPCC wanking at work guy
• NSPCC follow up on safeguarding, relationship with Bergdorf etc
• anything further from the National Theatre regarding homophobia

I emailed Cricket Australia, that was only last week, but I don’t expect a reply. Do we just accept that on some issues we will never see resolution? One thing I really don’t want to get lost, personally, is the investigation into the Tavistock.

Yes, this is a recurring theme where an extremely low profile is played out in the hope that people will forget.

Participation in sport is indeed a human right (will look for the exact ref shortly).

Competing in one specific category as opposed to another is not.

TemporaryPermanent · 14/10/2019 13:45

Its from the IOC charter.

The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

I would point out the 'without discrimination' and 'fair play'. So female participants should not be discriminated against just because they have physical disadvantages which are unavoidably relevant in sport.

'... the following Bill of Rights for Young Athletes was suggested by the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports at Michigan State University. They say a young person has these rights:

Right to participate in sports

Right to participate at a level commensurate with each child's maturity and ability

Right to have qualified adult leadership

Right to play as a child and not as an adult

Right of children to share in the leadership and decision-making of their sport participation

Right to participate in safe and healthy environments

Right to proper preparation for participation in sports

Right to an equal opportunity to strive for success

Right to be treated with dignity

Right to have fun in sports

I would point out 'safe and healthy' and 'equal opportunity to strive for success'.

Girls' sport matters. Women's sport matters.

If we don’t talk about it, it’s not happening is my take away from the organizations who carefully brush these issues under the carpet. Nothing to see here is writ loud and clear. But we have the receipts, we saw and heard what you did and said, you can’t unring that bell and there is no cloak of invisibility you can hide under. I appreciate the efforts of everyone who keeps fighting to expose these people and the people who supported them.

Another loose end for me is the Leicester Square Tube station attacks carried out by four "women". Not heard a dicky bird about sentencing yet. It was so serious that the magistrate referred the case for sentencing at crown court but that was back in November 2018.

VinandVigour · 14/10/2019 18:15

Wasn’t there going to be a legal challenge to The Labour Party regarding all women shortlists? It was so long ago and I remember there was some consternation regarding borrowed funds but I can’t recall much else.

BadgertheBodger · 14/10/2019 19:55

VinandVigour that’s still rumbling on. Last update was fairly vague but did say they would hopefully bring the case soon. The borrowed funds were returned straight away and an apology was eventually issued.

THIS THREAD WAS STARTED IN 2019

That said - any of this updated? Good to have a record of it all. Last time I checked some time ago there was still nothing on the Mermaids data breach.

There is a thread about this here, the end of the thread was updated in 2020: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3418509-Remember-the-video-footage-and-news-reports-of-a-gang-of-women-viciously-assaulting-a-man-at-a-tube-station-Well-guess-what

Out of curiosity I just googled James Makings (the NSPCC rubber fetishist) and it turned out he wrote an (admittedly self serving) blogpost about what happened: https://james-makings.com/2020/06/14/what-happened-last-summer/

I do feel a bit sorry for him - he says he's basically unemployable now - and at the end of the day while what he did* meant he should not work at a children's charity it does seem unduly harsh he should not work anywhere else.

*He also claims the masturbating videos he made, although captioned "at work", weren't actually made at work. If true, it does put things in a slightly different light (I.e. catastrophic error of judgment rather than sexual misconduct).

However he claims his rubber fetishist persona wasn't linked to his LinkedIn and he has 'no idea' how people found it. From what I recall it was absolutely linked to his LinkedIn.

What a mess.

CardinalLolzy · 02/05/2021 18:00

"and perviously a twitter account"

Oh come on, he's doing it on purpose now...

Thing is, he knows it was an "error of judgement" because of what would've happened (when he put that video online with that caption).

He can't genuinely think it's that surprising that when he did it, that happened.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 02/05/2021 18:11

@2BthatUnnoticed

Did NSPCC ever publicly distance themselves from Protasia, or not make any comment?

(There was only a tenuous link, being a couple of their employees following them on Twitter, but I expected a bland statement that employees can follow whomever)

Prostasia Update.

They were included on the list of signatories on the open letter organised by GLAAD.

What a lot of shite. Self-pitying, inaccurate, and some of it outright lies.

I actually think far less of him after reading that.

ArabellaScott · 02/05/2021 18:50
  • that was in response to Makings' blogpost, btw.

And O'Donnell lost their case against the Times I see. And has in the last 19 months raised £1,520 of the £25,000 target to appeal the judegment.

It is, but I still feel sorry for him. Massive errors of judgment, shouldn't work anywhere near children - for sure. But to render him unemployable for life is too much. It's cancel culture which I'm against, especially if you haven't even committed/been convicted of a crime.

Was represented in that case by one Robin Moira White, incidentally.

Thingybob · 02/05/2021 23:16

I don't understand why he would be unemployable. I agree he's unlikely to get a similar role and his post tells me that he wasn't suitable for that line of work, but there must be other types of employment. Thousands of people make mistakes, they get sacked, steal from their employers or maybe even serve time in prison but the majority do manage to get back on their feet, particularly if they are relatively young.

NotBadConsidering · 02/05/2021 23:17

He should ask Owen Jones for a job, he seemed to have no issue with any of it.

Presumably because if you Google him the first thing that comes up is about him wanking at work at a children's charity. Understandably no employer - even in a completely different industry - would want to touch that kind of controversy with a barge pole.

Thingybob · 02/05/2021 23:35

Hmmm I'm still not convinced FightingtheFoo that it would immediately put off every possible employer.

Anyway if you are reading James, I wish you well in finding other employment.
