@TheAndroidSea I am so sorry. If you ever want to chat you can message me.

@TheAndroidSea there are a few mothers here (get) who have had children come out as trans. Many are autistic girls. The stories are all so similar and heartbreaking. I'm so sorry.

I have an autistic daughter. My alarm bells started ringing 3 years ago when I realised how many autistic girls seemed caught up. As someone said somewhere - prising an austistic individual from their special interest is tricky at the best of time. And genderism seems a common special interest.

Not 'get'. FWR.

FFS autocorrect

Exactly, this is an obsession that hasn’t faded. We’ve been to the Tavistock. My dd is incredibly articulate and intelligent but can’t see the damage that is being done. We are CIS and we don’t understand, she pities and condemns us. I do still feel that one day she may come out the other side and see that a lot of this is wrong. I don’t care what she identifies as. Sorry for derailing.

Italiangreyhound · 13/08/2019 14:37

TheAndroidSea not derailing at all.

I do hope she comes out the other side.

I am not a fan of the whole non-binary thing but I do wonder for very confused girls of it may provide an 'out'. I prefer gender fluid!

Italiangreyhound · 13/08/2019 18:26

I should explain, being N/Not gender fluid coukd mean that girls don't need to identify as girks but don't need to identify as boys (or women and men in the case of adults).

I think it could take away the to me scarier aspects of hormones and surgeries. Since they ate not becoming someone else, so to speak.

Italiangreyhound · 13/08/2019 18:27

N/B non binary, gender fluid

OldCrone · 13/08/2019 18:28

Sadly, a lot of female non binary people seem to feel the need to have mastectomies and take testosterone.

Italiangreyhound · 13/08/2019 19:19

OldCrone "Sadly, a lot of female non binary people seem to feel the need to have mastectomies and take testosterone." That is true. There are various non-binary trans people around but I think non- binary really is about identifying as neither. But everything goes now! Apparently!

OldCrone · 13/08/2019 20:08

I was thinking about people like the first person mentioned in this story.

www.itv.com/news/2019-08-09/how-crowdfunding-is-fast-track-to-surgery-for-transgender-patients-stuck-in-waiting-game/

Melz Yaa has never wanted to be bracketed as a man or a woman and considers themselves non-binary in gender.

Despite knowing they were transgender from a young age, Melz faces the prospect of being 30 before even meeting a surgeon who can remove their breast tissue.

This seems to be the typical female non-binary path now.

For male non-binaries, who seem to be less common than the female ones, there seems to be no such need for body modifications.

Italiangreyhound · 13/08/2019 20:13

I guess it makes sense because womem traditionally seem to hate/dislike their bodies and mean do not!

Italiangreyhound · 13/08/2019 20:14

men don't!

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/08/2019 21:53

I'm so so sorry to read about your daughter Android. I'm shocked that your school could do that.

I used to be quite laid back about the non binary stuff till I saw this article. I'd come across it before but something about the way this was being glamorised really shocked me.

Unilever endorses mastectomies on healthy young women.

Goosefoot · 14/08/2019 02:03

Yes, it's also been my observation that for some reason a "non-binary" identity seems to require breast removal, which to me makes little sense.

My intuition is that a lot of these young women are actually going for a sort of willowy androgynous look, like Twiggy or young Kate Moss, or even David Bowie. Though I don't know if that would be very conscious. It seems kind of shallow compared to things like being uncomfortable with the sexuality implied in more womanly breasts, but there is something in that aesthetic that seems to bother a lot of young women. Even older ones, it's harder to fit clothes, it can feel almost matronly. In that sense I wonder if it isn't similar to the way some anorexic girls are attracted to a similar look.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/08/2019 07:16

It's bizarre as when I googled for that article, I found (them?) via a search entitled "non binary actress" after trying the actual non binary terms.

I haven't read this yet but there's new research relating to ASD and Dysphoria.
