Your plan to overthrow patriarchy

New to MN since last month.
Can you please tell us here your plan to overthrow patriarchy?

I think the reason patriarchy continues to a very large part, is because of the rampant unpunished abuse and killing of women.
So my plan is that all women should unite in all democratic countries to ensure that feminist analysis of women’s and men’s behaviour is taken into account, so police do not ignore women's abuse and that the rapist does not go free because the woman froze in the moment and did not cry out, as an example.

An immediate action could be to start a UK Parliament Petition with a heading of – “The UK Government and the Police have a problem with institutional misogyny.”

Men are united 100%, there are no laws that benefit women and harm all men. But there many many laws that benefit men and harm all women.

My rallying call for women to unite was called vacuous, hence this question for all here.

I hope every one can say what their plan is, to overthrow patriarchy.

If you do not have one, can you say why, I will make it easier for everyone by listing some obvious possible reasons for you individually not to have a plan.

  1. Patriarchy should not be overthrown – please give your reason.
  2. It can not be overthrown by women – as above.
  3. It will be overthrown only by men when they decide for whatever reasons – women do not need to have plan.
  4. It will never be “overthrown” – the best women can do is make the life of women better in small ways – as has happened over the last few thousand years and you accept that it will be another few hundred or thousand years for all women’s suffering to end for just being born a woman. Women do not need a plan, just carry on as now. Pease also state your time scale.
  5. It will be actively overthrown but you yourself do not need to have a plan, it is other’s job to have any plan. Please say who.
  6. You will have a plan, but at the moment you are prioritising your own existence because of money, career, partner, family etc. – Please say how many years before you will have a plan yourself.
  7. You are actively researching and will be formulating a plan soon – please indicate a timeline.

I don’t necessarily want this to be a discussion thread among a small number, but want to know from as many different members as possible, as to their own individual stance on this question if possible, thank you.

Oh OP, really? Overthrowing the patriarchy by starting a petition to inform a misogynist institution that they have problem with institutional misogyny? That's given me a smile on this wet day. They don't care, that's kind of the problem.

The fact is that "the patriarchy" isn't actually a monster that we can unite to kill with swords and stuff. This isn't a game of thrones episode. It's everywhere, from the highest level politicians passing laws that harm women, to the doctor who dismisses female patients as hysterical, or the retail industry that designs products with men as the default user unless it's something connected to women's work. The problem isn't just institutional, it's internalised, to the point that most people can't even see it. And as long as we operate within a system that discriminates against women, there's only so much we can do. We can pass laws to give us certain rights, but as we're seeing now those laws can be repealed at any time if it serves men. We can criminalise certain behaviour but if the justice system refuses to enforce those laws then they're useless. You really think there are no "rallying cries" going on already for police not to ignore the abuse of women? They don't care. They just simply do not care.

But anyway. I'm not saying stop fighting, we should definitely keep plugging away with our laws and our incremental changes. But as long as our rights need to be specifically legislated for by a system run by and for men, they are only really on lone. At the end of the day the only thing that will really change anything is a global and radical re-conceptualising of what power, progress, success, and equality should actually look like. And spoiler alert, it won't leave men at the top. So, sorry to piss on your chips but unless you think they're likely to go for that I'd stop wasting your time looking for the fatal blow to kill the dragon and spend it finding more efficient ways to put out the fires.

What's Grabsthars said.

I barely have time to meal plan let alone timeline plan for patriarchal smashing.

I'm challenging sexist shit when I see it at every opportunity and teaching my two boys what I can when appropriate.

Promoting secularism is generally helpful, as many religions are bastions of the patriarchy.

Very true; I was earwigging what appeared to possibly be a first date earlier or something else of two young serious university educated types earlier.

The bloke proclaimed he was agnostic but had read a lot about religion and the reason for it. He cited an example of witches being burned because people didn't understand mental illness. Whereas today we do.

I bit my tongue and thought, well sonny Jim, that's not quite the whole story there but I'll not embarrass you.

If I was PM-dictator I would

  1. Make early year childcare a priority. Improve welfare for children so no woman ever feels the need to stay in a marriage. Generally economic and social policies which prioritise women and children.

  2. . Put nordic model for prostitution and ban making porn that depicts penetration/ regulate porn online (I don't know how)
