Bragging about hitting women

My goodness this is terrifying.

Crowing on r/MtF about how great it was when a woman was slapped in the face when someone thought she might be about to use a person's former name.

Lots of super supportive comments from the community. It was top trending.

www.reddit.com/r/MtF/comments/cn4b29/throwback_to_that_time_my_friend_legit_slapped_a/

The mods locked it after disobedient women objected.

This is locked due to a brigade from r/GenderCritical. Your daily reminder that TERFs are parasites. The ban button is getting a workout today!

Here's a gem from the thread

Everyone who's saying "I don't condone violence." This wasn't violence. This was defense.

There's a difference.

I'm not even trying to make some philosophical or political statement, there is a literal dictionary and legal level difference between what happened in the OP and the definition of "violence."

Outing a trans person in public, depending on the context, can actually be construed as inciting violence against them.

You should absolutely shut someone like that the fuck up by whatever means necessary, within reason.

Yes, it seems to be a common theme. Entitlement and anger. This TW got angry when a woman who entered the Ladies, saw them and left (who wouldn’t?).

Lots of anger from their TW followers - ‘fuck her!’ etc.

Failure to validate their ID = act of aggression to them.

No empathy or understanding for the class they are supposedly joining.

I saw this earlier and had a quick look at the comments. It's really disturbing how they are mostly all saying things like 'well terfs are nazis/scum etc so deserve to be beaten up.' Ironically, they are acting exactly like Nazis by dehumanising a group of people, blaming them for everything then saying they want to hurt them physically. But the most alarming part is the way they think this somehow makes them morally right. They are using a lot of mental gymnastics but they can't seem to see their own behaviour objectively.

Reddit is completely taken over by their ideology, apart from a couple of GC places. Notice how the moderator is actively dehumanising women. If I had children I would not want them going anywhere near that site.

Your man in the photo- jaysus if he was made of chocolate he'd eat himself.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 09/08/2019 14:29

I have a browse through the mtf reddit every now and then.
Staggering entitlement, coupled with complete ignorance and dismissal of anything relating to what its actually like to be a woman. Quite fascinating look into the minds of narcissists.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 09/08/2019 14:47

Can you imagine if we went round behaving like that? It's almost as if there's a difference here... something I can't quite put my finger on.....

East7thst · 09/08/2019 14:51

You can disagree on the violence but come on, its not on to purposely try and out someone. The girl should not have done it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/08/2019 15:07

Fuck off with your victim blaming.
If you want to try and start a discussion on another thread about whether it's ever ok to out someone, go right ahead.
A thread about how a woman was slapped and people are crowing about it is not an appropriate place.

East7thst · 09/08/2019 15:11

TheCountessofFitzdotterel

I think its a reach to call it victim blaming but go off.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 09/08/2019 15:26

Yes, it's victim blaming.

No one's aren't allowed to slap someone for saying things they don't like. It's not that complicated.

OvaHere · 09/08/2019 15:28

There's a good chance this was just another 'Things that never happened'. There's a lot of that on Reddit.

However the crowing over VAWG (real or imagined) is sickening.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 09/08/2019 15:28

Ergh. Edit fail.

Should read:
No one's allowed to slap someone for saying things they don't like. It's not that complicated.

FFSFFSFFS · 09/08/2019 15:51

Did they hit a "Girl" or a "Woman" I wonder?

There's an interesting use of language no?

Either they hit a child.

Or they hit an adult - but can't help but throw in a bit of misogynistic infantilising whilst proclaiming their womanhood.

Am I allowed to say that they're being a dick?

East7thst · 09/08/2019 15:55

I never once said she was to blame for being smacked one. But I am also not supporting her behavior either. Both of them sound like absolute whoppers to me.

TowelNumber42 · 09/08/2019 16:55

Trying to out someone as trans is an interesting concept. Interesting in the sense of being batshit crazy. Surely everybody will have been aware that the person was a transwoman. Using the person's prior name wouldn't have outed them.

If someone announced I used to be called Bob, the people around me wouldn't say "OMG, Towel is trans, she used to be a man!" No, they'd laugh and know it to be a joke because I am clearly not a transwoman.

East7thst · 09/08/2019 16:59

You clearly haven’t met many convincing trans people - I have! It’s a douche bag going to do because it puts them at risk of violence.

NeutralJanet · 09/08/2019 17:00

Surely everybody will have been aware that the person was a transwoman

Having had a look at a recent picture of themselves they chose to post on Reddit I think you are correct.

SunsetBeetch · 09/08/2019 17:02

Did you mean to break my irony meter, East?

Pota2 · 09/08/2019 17:04

Has anyone ever seen anger and vitriol of this kind directed towards eg racists or homophobes? Because I haven’t. So what it is about the trans issue that gets people so incredibly enraged that they want to punch and kill people? And not even the people who are violent or transphobic towards them- just some women who do not agree with everything they say. What is it that makes the trans thing so special that people respond in this way? Not just weirdos on the Internet but actual professionals (although I use that term quite loosely).

TowelNumber42 · 09/08/2019 17:05

I note they were vague about the context.

For example I can imagine the groupies of a certain person would have got violent if a bystander were about to say "Do you realise Jessica over there is the same person as Jonathan who sent those pervy messages?"

In what context would a woman saying "Didn't you used to be Kevin?" be so bad it doesn't merit a simple "I go by Kevina now. Please use my new name." and instead needs shutting down with violence.

I can think of two options.

  1. Defending collective delusion about passing. The woman never thinks for a second that the TW looks anything other than a TW and so, in certain contexts, might refer to the old name. "Yeah when we went to that concert and we met Bob after and we didn't even recognise him with that crazy haircut until he shouted 'Oi Kevin, how you doing' across the street." The other TW are horrified at the implicit assumption that Kevina does not pass 100% and lash out.
  1. The woman was going to link the name to wrongdoing. Possibly something that becomes obviously wrong only when you realise it was done as a man.

East I have met several rather convincing trans people. Men and women. They still do not pass. Maybe in photos. Maybe at a distance, especially when not walking or talking. Close up real life interaction? Is obvious.

Once again, if the person genuinely passed then it could be laughed off as ridiculous. Or, crazy thought, the person could be unashamed of being trans, own their reality.

Cripes. An actual poster who thinks it’s ok to hit someone who says things you don’t like

Yikes

East7thst · 09/08/2019 17:17

I would always personally punch a nazi

TowelNumber42 · 09/08/2019 17:17

What context could you imagine it being OK east?
