Surely the Bathroom Wars is easily solved...

Women (the vulva type), and then All Genders, (with a wall/screened area for urinals, cos let's face it, they are practical but kinda gross).
Surely the number of men who would be offended by non binary/trans in their loo would be far less than women offended by the opposite? (And rightly so).

Women so so obviously need woman specific spaces. (Periods, pervs, etc).

Seriously, share your practical solutions to this debate. What would work? Cos here we are, 2019.
#battle/war.

allmywhat I can't bear to go there. Cos I know.

I also can't bear that we have to debate/compromise this. But here we are.

Confused

I have a simple, practical solution.

Members of the female sex class use women's facilities, members of the male sex class use men's facilities, we completely ignore the indefinable 'gender identities' of those who believe in such things and arrest anyone who barges into wrong sex spaces as a sex offender.

(I can dream)

Yeahnahyeah · 29/07/2019 09:45

The gender neutral loos work well in theory (hell, they've been here, for instance, Chch NZ public hospital for yonks).
BUT that was before all the trans validation nonsense.
It's different now. It is.

It's a kink for some people to use these loos. Almost sanctioned now.

Actually there is no 'almost' about it.

We just start going in the men's. They'll soon decide sex segregation is best.

Cor, that reddit thread. I’d hate to think it’s genuine

‘Every damn bathroom argument has cis women’s safety at the forefront’

Well durr. What did you think single sex loos were for?

AleFailTrail · 29/07/2019 10:57

How about changing the signage from man and woman to penis and vagina? No discrimination there, you have a penis you use the penile loo.

Or we convert all toilets to any gender but they are all floor to ceiling cubicles including a wash basin (so no shared area) plus a urinals room with wash basins.

No thank you. The Resisters United website gives very good reasons why we don't want any form of mixed sex toilet facilities:

resistersunited.org/the-importance-of-single-sex-toilets-and-changing-rooms/

The nature of this offense i.e: digitally documented voyeurism and sexual abuse, is a growing category of sexual crime perpetration, due largely to the explosion in availability of violent hardcore pornography along with increased affordability, accessibility, and portability of recording equipment including smartphones and tiny cameras, which can be hidden and later collected, or held under or over cubicle doors. A quick scour of Pornhub, the largest porn site worldwide by viewing figures, reveals multiple videos which include the words ‘Spycam’ or ‘Hidden Cam’ including ‘Voyeur Porn Videos Made by Cams in Public Places’ (3.5 million views) Public Upskirt Voyeur Hidden Cam (1.3 million) Shooting A Hidden Camera In The Fitness Club Locker Room (350,000) Locker Room Spycam (570,000) Hidden Cam In Toilets (sic) Bowl (2.5 million) & Indonesian Peeing Toilet Spycam (18,000.) This genre of so called ‘porn’ (in reality, documented evidence of sexual crime perpetration) has become a problem of such endemic proportions in South Korea that in 2018 a record breaking number of women marched in monthly protests against it. X Hamster, disturbingly, even features instructions on concealing tiny cameras in public spaces

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 29/07/2019 12:18

Aside from the hidden camera issue I worry about fully enclosed toilets from a safety view point.

What if a child locks themselves in? What if someone collapses inside a locked unit?

These are not particularly unusual circumstances and easily identifiable in a normal set up by other users but a collapsed person might not be noticed for hours in a fully enclosed unit.

I don’t fancy pissing next to some unknown bloke in the next cubicle ta.

butteryellow · 29/07/2019 12:40

Men have the right to privacy, just as much as women. I agree that this is a safer solution than nicking women's loos but the solution is to use toilets in line with material reality.

The thing is that right now men just aren't really affected. So whilst, yes, I agree men have a right to privacy, they're not going to get involved whilst their privacy isn't being invaded. So the the only tactic here is to bring the problem to them, by using the mens/making the men's gender neutral. Once they're actually experiencing the problem that we are, something will be done, because now men are the ones asking.

happydappy2 · 29/07/2019 13:52

I don’t agree with taking away women only loos and replacing with individual cubicals. If you have a baby in a buggy & a toddler in tow, you sometimes can’t all fit in the cubicle so leave the door slightly open to keep an eye on the baby in the buggy.

whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 29/07/2019 14:36

This one really takes it too far...

Of course women wanting to have their own safe single sex spaces is really similar to the decades of institutional racism, segregation, discrimination and torture that black people endured (and still do).

How dare they compare that suffering. Totally undermining people who were/are genuinely in danger for their lives. Angry

Women don't want to be next to men in toilets, nor do they want their young daughters to be. That is, in no way, removing anyone's rights. Trans or otherwise.

No thank you. The Resisters United website gives very good reasons why we don't want any form of mixed sex toilet facilities:

Today I experienced this for the first time, ie, mixed sex signs on the doors.
It was in a very nice Asian restaurant in Cavan, near the Irish border. There were few customers and they had two loos, both with male/female signs on the doors. The loos were fully enclosed with wash basins. It is certainly a low-risk solution, as only one person could go in at a time. But you still have the risk of hidden cameras, menstruation perverts etc. Possible, but unlikely.
No men in there. We have our privacy. The loo I used was very clean. So you could say, why not?
But I have to ask, why? As there were two loos they could just as well put a female sign on one and a male sign on the other. The female one could have tampon dispensers, bags for sanitary stuff etc. The male one could have a urinal. Done.
