I don't think I've seen a post on this yet. I wonder what this means for GRA reform.

Johnson was editor of the Spectator. I'd imagine his views on trans are close to theirs.

Unformidable · 26/07/2019 08:24

Ruth Hunt is very happy Amber Rudd is the new Equalities Minister. Hmm

Mordant's gone, does this add to the conversation in any way, or is possibly significant.

I dont know whether she was pushed though

NotBadConsidering · 26/07/2019 08:43

The fact that Hunt is VERY pleased and the fact that Benjamin Cohen thinks it’s great news can mean only one thing: they think she’s in their trans corner.

Popchyk · 26/07/2019 08:50

Ruth Hunt getting pilloried on that thread, Unformidable.

I think Ruth forgot about Windrush and the deportation of gay people from the UK.

But of course those people don't matter a whit to Stonewall. They are not brave and stunning. Stonewall would rather devote themselves to resisting the literal violence of correct biological pronouns.

From the looks of that thread, I think Stonewall's erstwhile supporters are beginning to see the problem.

Wonder if Ruth Hunt is just sucking up to Tory government ministers because Ruth Hunt is looking for a new job?

Lazydaisies · 26/07/2019 08:54

It absolutely shocks me when a conservative government is actually conservative these days. It is like the whole notion of the Labour Party actually being focussed on making the lives of the working classes better at the expense of the wealthier.

TruthOnTrial · 26/07/2019 09:07

Could it be true, could it really?!

Unformidable · 26/07/2019 09:47

@Popchyk she is, isn't she, and yet...

Does Ruth know something?

So some Tory right wingers are openly bigoted about sexuality and voted against gay marriage. Quelle surprise.

Others may still be bigoted but are pragmatic enough to read the electorate and keep quiet.

What the article doesn't tell us what any of them think the definition of woman should be.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/07/2019 09:59

It doesn't matter who is in power, the GRA changes are going to happen, hoping things will change that high up is useless.

The focus needs to be on educating the public, something that is working, and pretty rapidly.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/07/2019 10:01

A bunch of homophobic politicians are very likely to back something that eradicates lesbian people.

FormerMediocreMale · 26/07/2019 10:04

The article is fairly meaningless as LGB issues are totally dif to T issues. Homophobia is quite a big part of the T.

That RH is very pleased is concerning, has she had some private discussions in order to feel so confident. Is Rudd going to use the GRA for brownie points to make up for the windrush scandal, to show some humanity while throwing women under a bus?

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 26/07/2019 12:10

On the other hand Amber Rudd is sitting on a majority of 346. Would only need 174 women in her constituency to switch sides over this and she’s gone.

Imnobody4 · 26/07/2019 12:31

Wouldn't trust RH's endorsement- she's after jobs on boards etc for gov e.g. LBGT health etc. She's not going to criticise AR.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 26/07/2019 12:34

Always that is interesting. Perhaps she needs to hear from a few GC constituents? Where is she?

IrenetheQuaint · 26/07/2019 12:38

"It doesn't matter who is in power, the GRA changes are going to happen, hoping things will change that high up is useless."

I don't agree with this at all - I can't see a right-wing Tory party supporting legal self-ID, however much Amber Rudd may personally.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/07/2019 12:45

I can't see a right-wing Tory party supporting legal self-ID

Why not, it'll benefit a lot of people?
Homophobics, pedophiles and people who want to stop autistic people reproducing.
This isn't even touching on the amount of fetishist who enjoy reducing Female privacy, like have women see them, have sissy fetishes, Adult babies who would like women to see them be changed.

FormerMediocreMale · 26/07/2019 12:50

AR is MP for Rye area and yes her majority is very small. She's not very popular, seen as self serving rather than serving the locals. I have family there and even the Conservative ones don't like Rudd.

Popchyk · 28/07/2019 15:03

Ruth Hunt is forced to apologise for welcoming Amber Rudd to the cabinet.

And then thanks everyone who pilloried her.

She's deleted the original tweet.

The apology:

twitter.com/ruth_hunt/status/1155091096671870977

"I wrote an unconsidered tweet last week about the new cabinet. I was distracted and not thinking properly. I’m sorry I let people down. (1/2)

As ever, keen to work with all cabinet members going forward to support ALL #lgbt people, including lgbt people of colour. Quick reactions don’t help and don’t reflect complexities. Thanks to those who called me out on it. (2/2)"

Very grovelling.

Seems to embody Ruth Hunt's tenure at Stonewall really.

Soon to be over.
