There are two free programmes taking place if anyone wants to see how trans people's rights and women's rights can be balanced.

www.stonewall.org.uk/get-involved/get-involved-individuals-communities/trans-allies-programme

Who can attend
Stonewall’s Trans Allies programme is designed for non-trans individuals at any level of an organisation and from any sector or industry.

We actively seek a diverse a range of participants for this programme, we're keen to hear from allies and LGB people from a range of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, people of faith, and individuals of different abilities.

Community Programmes
Community programmes are grant funded, free to attend programmes that take place throughout the UK. We encourage anyone to apply for a place on these programmes, but particularly welcome applications from community groups, third sector organisations and individuals. Due to demand, places are limited to 2 per organisation. To apply for a place please use the links below. If you have any questions or require a plain text version of this form, please email [email protected]

Hi Ewe, I don't see any mention at all of women's rights in that blurb... did I miss it? Or is that the kind of 'balance' you mean?

Angryresister · 23/07/2019 08:55

I really don't think they wnt to her from types like us

EweSurname · 23/07/2019 08:55

Sorry, was probably a bit misleading. I meant it would be a perfect opportunity to see how they propose to balance both groups' rights when coaching people how to be trans allies. In a training session open to the public, it seems an ideal venue to find out from them directly how they'd deal with competing rights.

Want to hear...apols

Apollo440 · 23/07/2019 09:07

I looked at it and can't even see the word woman. A zero tolerance approach to discrimination sounds nice but probably means screaming transphobia at anyone who has questions. The rest is all about how to be a trans ally and set up support networks. From experience of what has gone before this will be to create a climate of fear to push through their agenda. Absolutely nothing about balancing rights. I suggest you go and raise women's concerns OP but be prepared to be told to STFU asked to leave.

EweSurname · 23/07/2019 09:30

Sorry I've completely miss old it! It's not about women at all but if anyone wanted to go along and see what they thought about how to balance this with women's rights, it would be very interesting.

They're both too far for me to attend but I'd have loved to have gone, just to hear firsthand what information is shared as I've not ever attended a training session before.

I reckon if you went along and mentioned women's rights they'd call the cops!

QuestaVecchiaCasa · 23/07/2019 09:38

They are both a bit far away from me, otherwise I would think of going on one of these courses if only to take up a place from some one else who may be more susceptible to this nonsense than me.

No-one's proposing to balance anything though - Stonewall won't give a shit about looking out for women's rights and I should imagine that anyone who challenges them will be labelled a bigot and told to leave.

Anyway, the audience is self-selecting so people won't be going there expecting to reconcile trans rights and women's rights.

Surprising few people care about women's rights and the ones who do are likely to be sufficiently clued up not to risk their own careers/safety by putting their head above the parapet in a Stonewall training session.

I understood Ewe and if I was any where near, would be good to apply! Thank you for sharing

Sunkisses · 24/07/2019 09:04

I understand @Ewe too! Thanks for sharing. I think it would be a really good idea to go along and witness / record what they're saying. Also perhaps challenge them on their track record of lobbying to remove the exemptions within the Equality Act that allow women only services and spaces (all recorded on the Woman's Place UK website).

hardgallife · 24/07/2019 13:03

Sunkisses they mentioned the removal of exemptions once in their submission to Women and Equalities but haven't mentioned it any year since so I assume it is dropped (fingers crossed) and that will be their response

Imnobody4 · 24/07/2019 15:52

It's too far for me but I do hope someone can attend to witness. It is grant aided funding so I presume taxpayers are contributing.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 24/07/2019 15:59

Bit out of my way.
But I am curious about the "balance". I suspect it involves telling women to be nice and be quiet.

stumbledin · 24/07/2019 18:10

Have you seen the price of tickets that get corporations to pay?!!

No wonder Stonewall is so wealthy. First of all you pressurise people into thinking they aren't up to date on some new development, and then you say dont worry we've got a course that will explain it.

Snowangel23 · 24/07/2019 19:01

Sounds great. Too far for me but like the focus, hope there's more across the country.
