Teresa May has announced a new independent body responsible for challenging social injustices and creating a fairer country. And it uses the term 'gender' not 'sex'. It also covers LBGT.
Isn't it important to start this with collecting accurate data according to 'sex' as well as by 'transgender'. After all, they have consistently said they will not touch the Equalities Act so why not use the correct terminology.

I agree that it should be sex rather than gender or 'sex and gender'.

However, give the normalisation of "The Gender Pay Gap" and the inclusion of 'T' with the LGB etc. then I think that would impractical to change this.

After all, I admire the Women's Budget Group and they've done some excellent work recently on the disparate impact of the cost of housing on women - but they repeatedly refer to gender rather than sex.

E.g., WBG Commission on a Gender-Equal Economy: wbg.org.uk/commission/

Its fairly obvious that the plan is to slide more and more convenient incoherencies in by the back door while virtuously saying when questioned 'but we're not changing the EA."

It's exactly like they keep saying "we will keep single sex spaces" while at the same time muttering ("But any man can be any sex they like")

Liars, cowards and cheats who do not have the guts to be honest about what they are doing and why, because they know it is indefensible. And who because of their personal privileges, will never be personally negatively affected in the mess they are creating for the electorate.

So it's fairly evident already who the 'fairer society' is for, and which 'social injustices' this is fighting.

Clue: if you're born female, BAME, disabled, poor, working class.... it's not for you.

Minister for Women and Equalities, Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt said:

We know that high quality data and evidence are important tools in tackling inequality.

Right. So how accurate will your data be when measuring women, eh, Penny?

I think it is preferable that they relate Injustice to the exact list of protected characteristics in the Equality Act 2010. That we, we all know where we stand.

Also, remember that the terms "gender", "gender identity", "transgender", "transwomen", "transman", "non-binary" have no legal meaning in any UK statute.

Why impractical? The equality act covers sex specifically. Using ‘gender’ instead effectively erases the protections based on ‘sex’. It is essential it is changed and not hard to do at all - it’s only words.

Gender was used interchangeably with sex for a long time, with not too many problems, it's only since trans came along that it's become a problem. Maybe that was the first step though.

Imagine if instead of race, they started using the euphemism 'brownness' and white people recently back from Marbella claimed membership of the group suffering race injustice?
Or disability morphed into 'hurtiness' and toothache sufferers were deemed equally afflicted as paraplegics.

Euphemisms serve only to conflate meanings and diffuse accuracy.

The largest, most widespread injustices this country suffers is based on sex. We are 33 million. No other oppressed group comes close in numbers. We are a protected category. And yet, we are the category which is most frequently dropped, obscured or mutated into another, separate category.

If the Department of Muggle Studies fails to get this right from their launch, I am pretty convinced this is by design rather than incompetence.
