A must-watch interview with William Malone (US endocrinologist) about the unscientific use of puberty blockers and cross sex hormones in children.

The link for Carl Heneghan's BMJ blog (referred to in interview): Gender-affirming hormone in children and adolescents.

I’m just listening to the podcast version of this.

Highly recommend. Factual, scientific, fascinating and horrifying.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 14/07/2019 11:31

This is very good. I follow him on twitter and he is excellent.

I'm 27 minutes in. He shyed (sp?) away from some of the negative effects of testosterone on the female reproductive organs though, which is my only criticism so far.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/07/2019 11:58

Yes, I thought he could have gone more deeply into the relative scale of harm caused to male and female bodies by opposite sex hormones.

But he’s rock solid on the lack of evidence of the treatment actually doing what it’s purported to do, which is a really great angle to go from. I’m a bit obsessed with Chesterton’s fencing everything about this debate at the moment, which means going back to first principles before you get into rights and wrongs, and asking “what is this actually for?”. And the answer here is “to help trans people”. If the evidence suggests that in fact it doesn’t achieve that, then...Well, it’s obvious.

Read the linked article on BMJ and I appreciate that it’s intended for professionals but a table of abbreviations wouldn’t go amiss.

The usual practice - which the article follows - is to write something out in full the first time around followed by the abbreviation in brackets - eg. Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) - and thereafter refer to it using only the abbreviation, but when there are so many juggling them in your head can be a pain.

Halfway through I was thinking ‘What’s GAH? Has that even been mentioned before?’

Don’t let that comment put you off though. Worth bookmarking for future use.

Ploughing my way through; so many excellent points and also for those with gender dysphoria, especially that transitioning isn't necessarily the 'cure.'

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 14/07/2019 19:51

I saw something (maybe on twitter, the other day which said something like "There are many routes into Gender Dysphoria, which also means there are many routes out".

I think I was part of a longer piece, but that line really resonated with me.

Great interview. Another thread here:

Will Malone, the endocrinologist interviewed, has also put out an excellent resource document that can be downloaded here:

It's a long watch but I found it very illuminating and helpful.

Will Malone is an endocrinologist - an expert in hormones and the body's reaction to them. The fact that he's speaking out so clearly, spelling out the biological reality and his horror of what is being medically done to children and young people, is hugely encouraging. Very few are doing the same.

He also references the pushback that's going on in the UK - from Carl Heneghan in particular.

Benjamin Boyce describes this interview as a 'bombshell' - you can see from his reaction at times that he's surprised by how far Will Malone is prepared to go in telling the truth.

Of course, there's a lot of issues he doesn't bring up- but I think that focusing on his own area of expertise makes this interview very powerful.

Please share this with everyone you can, and if they are in the medical profession so much the better.

OvaHere · 18/07/2019 20:58

Just watched this whole interview.

Dr Malone is very clear regarding the risks and outcomes. He mentions that privately many colleagues have concerns so hopefully there will be increasing amounts of medical experts speaking out.

He mentions the UK a fair bit - Carl Heneghan and the BMJ and also the UK Society of GPs. It makes me feel heartened that however much of a mess the UK has got into with gender ideology we might actually be the ones to eventually lead the way out of the mess too.
