Seen at my local library yesterday...

Even my local library has apparently lost the plot.

This obviously local publication was on the magazine rack in the general section on the lower (child height) shelves. No doubt attractive to youths because of the colour and style.

Style reminiscent of a ransom note is appropriate given the demands to follow along with gender ideology or be punished.

Note the man on the front cover holding his genitals - not sure if a commentary on fetishism or dysorphia?

And what better way to claim its not a fetish than with a lingerie-clad woman holding a leather whip and posing in a sexually suggestive manner? /s

They have a middle page with some local business sponsors/advertisements. Easy to say those businesses don’t need to worry about getting my business anymore. That’s an easy no.

I hope you complained FeministCat?
I now feel less guilty for moving the local info leaflets around in my local library to make space for a nice pile of Fair Play for Women postcards.

GirlDownUnder · 13/07/2019 03:26

I read this slightly differently.

I see a man (usual kind) spying on trans women, and holding his genitals because he's sexually excited, but because he's a 'transphobe' he's in denial of his true feelings Hmm

I think this is meant to be a trans woman hence the 'I'm not a trap, secret, or fetish' ergo you should be unafraid to be open to openly dating. Again, I think this is aimed at men (the usual kind).

Maybe this would be suitable for YA or adults but not for anyone under 18.

littlecabbage · 13/07/2019 03:38

My young primary-aged kids signed up to the Summer Reading Challenge at our local library this week. They had to tick either "boy", "girl", "prefer not to say" or "another way". FFS Hmm

MoanyAnna · 13/07/2019 04:00

Gosh ! Please just complain. It's awful on so many levels and extremely hard to interpret

JessicaWakefieldSV · 13/07/2019 05:55

Did you complain?

FeministCat · 13/07/2019 06:02

I have a couple more images as well.

Yes, I did complain but the desk attendant told me to put it in writing to another individual. I am trying to figure out how to do that in an anonymous way as due to my job it would not be great to do so with my name attached.

Oh I didn’t imagine it was meant to be anyone but a trans woman. My point was for all the declarations it’s not a fetish (or AGP), images like that don’t do much to clear that image.

Whoops, sorry Feminist, I see now (or rather, I wish I didn't Grin) Brew

strawberrypenguin · 13/07/2019 06:49

Wow that's quite something. Do consider that the member of staff might want you to put it in writing so they can evidence general feeling. The staff might not have had a choice (although if it was my library I'd have found a dark corner for it if I absolutely had to have it)

Also consider getting someone to write to the local councillor if you can't do it yourself - they can have a lot of sway with libraries

CircleofWillis · 13/07/2019 06:55

I was actually impressed with the genderbread image as it mentioned biological sex then I looked closer and realised that male-ness and female-ness are not the same as male an female. Instead it is just a pot of croc and is probably referring to a 'female penis' and a 'male vagina'.

HandsOffMyRights · 13/07/2019 06:56

I don't know where to begin with this! The kids have been let loose with the scissors and magazines again.

It's very Buffalo Bill. Woman says.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 13/07/2019 07:52

The genderbread person is awful. It appropriates the words woman and man to refer to gender identity instead of sex. By using female-ness and male-ness it also seeks to suggest that sex is not binary.

Imnobody4 · 13/07/2019 16:46

Is this a free publication? Complain and ask what their policy is regarding accepting free stuff. If they accept that then anything goes including gender critical and feminist stuff.

GrumpyGran8 · 13/07/2019 16:51

It's a personal 'zine; produced in Alberta, Canada. Here's what it says on their FB page:
A straight-ahead, honest publishing project of a contemporary transwoman and her very personal perspective on trans, non-trans, and LIG (Life In General). Julie is a whirlwind, a FON (Force of Nature) ... and she is ... Julie Ruin. If you are trans and you are watching Trans Culture emerge from the deep, Stone Age Pit of Modernity, you own yourself a subscription to TRANSPHOBIC FEVER. You need to collect each issue, cherish them and pass them down to your Baby-Trans as you trudge The Road Of Happy Transition and help others come along with you!
I thought that zines had pretty much died out in the 2000s, when websites and social media came along. Some libraries accept zines and other local publications, if they're free. But wouldn't they check they were suitable first?

Sunkisses · 14/07/2019 07:20

"pass them down to your Baby-Trans"...? No, not a cult. No, not at all Hmm

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/07/2019 07:34

There'll be a Woke Person in there somewhere! Probably the person OP was asked to write to!!!

Snap!
Am in London. I presume all children across the country had to do this. Nuts.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/07/2019 08:49

That really is the product of an unhappy teen locked in their bedroom with some magazines, scissors and a pot of glue. Somebody needs a new hobby!

The ransom note vibe is strangely fitting.

Did you decide if you were going to complain? I’d just be tempted to slip some fair play for women leaflets or some “women don’t have penises” stickers between every page and pop it to the back of the rack, myself.

Terrifiedandregretful · 14/07/2019 17:16

DD was asked if she identified as a boy, girl or prefer-not-to-say. Cue blank incomprehension from DD. She's 5.

Yep.
