I would add Mhari’s accent is typical of much of the area she represents. I don’t agree with her views on many things but mocking someone’s accent is crap
I'm about 15 miles from Paisley and while I appreciate the sentiment behind the 'agony column' I do think it would have been better written in English. Not because of mockery but because it is badly written.
Scots is hard to write well due to the diversity of dialects and this piece is jarring for various reasons. It uses words not used in the particular dialect (or only used as affectation), people from Paisley don't generally say 'dinnae' for example, 'don't' is the norm in urban West Central Lallans dialects. It is inconsistent spelling 'whit' as 'whut', then 'whet'. It places apostrophes where they don't belong eg o' instead of o, which is a common mistake.
I could go on, but I'm doubtless boring you rigid, my point mainly is that the use of Scots distracts from the satire rather than adds to it, not because I'm fussed about mockery, it isn't the fault of working class Scots if Old Etonian types are too stupid to understand other languages/dialects/accents, but because it doesn't ring true.
