St Paul’s boys & girls diversity talk: sport

So I saw that a group I’d not heard of, Diversity Role Models, did a talk with both the St Paul’s boys & girls school. This is the write up in a school newsletter:

Our first Diversity Day, joint with the boys’ school, was a highly-anticipated event for the LV. This initiative was launched to enable students to learn about inclusion and celebrate diversity. The day began with an interesting talk from Ryan Atkin, the only “out” gay football referee in English professional football. Not only did we learn about the discrimination and lack of diversity within professional sports, but students were able to ask relevant questions, including whether individuals should compete based on their biological gender, or the gender with which they identify. This session was followed by a talk by Diversity Role Models on the importance of inclusion and unconscious bias – a more practical workshop, where students were able to voice their opinions and participate in some thought-provoking role-plays. The final session of the day included a panel discussion. This memorable event serves to show our ongoing commitment to embracing inclusion and allowing opportunities for discussion, reflection and celebration of difference. The opportunity to collaborate with Paulines was also an equally productive and enriching experience for all

I wondered if anyone had heard of ‘Diversity Role Models’ and what kind of talks they give. I also am concerned that a male football referee was answering questions on the issue of sports and transgenderism, and how it would be answered. I looked up one of the people at Diversity Role Models on Twitter, Kate Hutchinson who is trans, and they did have a horrible tweet about Sharron Davies and shared the Mhairi Black video.

I'm so glad my children are adult now 😟 I'd be beside myself with rage if this was being foisted on my children. Role plays, hmmmnnnn 🤔

The London grapevine suggests that the St Pauls schools are particularly woke. One at least, as I recall, was signed up as a Stonewall champion school. No idea why that is, other than perhaps the fact that they are owned/run by City Guilds, so perhaps influenced by the views of Edward Lord and friends.

A leading girls school having a man talk to them about sports and trans inclusion is particularly annoying.

Two years ago: 'As many as 10 girls in St Paul’s sixth form have already gone through the formal process within the school either as boys or gender neutral.'

From the website I think they are quite a big trainer in this field- they cover primary and secondary schools:

In 2017/18 your donations helped us deliver 654 student workshops, to 19,000+ students and train 1,200 staff and governors. Become a regular donor or make a one-off donation to help us reach more schools and build a more inclusive education system.

I wonder what teacher training credentials the staff delivering these talks have because they shouldn’t be part of building any kind of education system unless they have some.

It could be that the students just asked him those questions because they were interested in it, not because someone in charge thought he was some sort of expert and asked him to.

I feel like I am becoming cranky and old. I read this stuff and I feel like I'd rather they shut up about it all, it's just a way of pacifying the population.

That’s true. How it was answered would be interesting to hear and I guess I’m assuming he focused on ‘inclusion’ based on their website.

Yes, I wondered how he answered as well.

This one causes me a bit of concern in view of the children who have been suspended or expelled from other schools through voicing their thoughts on this issue.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 06/07/2019 07:06

Coyoacan That’s a good point. I know through the grapevine that they are absolutely not encouraged to voice their own opinions here on certain things either. Amazing isn’t it. A boy can state biological facts and be expelled, while a male visitor can talk to children about an ideology that believes people can change sex.
