BBC report:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-48836690

I'm stunned, never heard of this before!

(and at least the BBC referred to these people suffering womb removal as women............)

I dont understand, couldn't they have just identified out of being female 🙄

FermatsTheorem · 05/07/2019 12:51

It's horrific.

These women need clean, safe toilets, sanitary products, and decent employment rights. Instead, they're being butchered.

MenuPlant · 05/07/2019 12:52

Yes I saw this on the bbc as well was going to post later

It's terrible and the bit about women not being advised of side effects /consequences is horrific.

Good its being publicised.

Don't know what can be done

MenuPlant · 05/07/2019 12:53

I found it v interesting that some countries give menstrual leave for women who need it.

That would not fly here in a million years.

Nappyvalley15 · 05/07/2019 12:53

Horrifying. I could hardly finish that report.Sad

Apollo440 · 05/07/2019 13:05

This is so sad. Well at least the BBC called them women. This is the reality of female oppression....rooted in biology. You can't identify out of this shit. Any of you arseholes monitoring mumsnet want to come on and tell us about cis privilege right now? Thought not.

FormerMediocreMale · 05/07/2019 13:11

Heart breaking.

haggis the TRA really have no idea when it comes to the cruel reality of womanhood. Privileged males like Jenner and PM lecturing women - just makes my blood boil. The fact these women are undergoing surgery in order to be not much more than slaves, they can't simply self-ID out of it.

FormerMediocreMale · 05/07/2019 13:11

*LM

Rosemary46 · 05/07/2019 13:14

I was just about to say they should be grateful for their cis privilege Hmm. But I see someone beat me to it.

placemats · 05/07/2019 13:20

Shocking isn't it? Despite the hysterectomies the problem still isn't solved either. Most have to give up work.

Fucking disgraceful behaviour by men on women.

'cis privilege' my arse!

sakura184 · 05/07/2019 13:44

It was particularly sad to read the woman talk about how the hysterectomy caused health problems for her like pains.
Sorry to go on about trans but doctors do take women's wombs out Willy nilly and there's no concept of it being a major organ that probably affects the entire organism of the body if it's removed. It's a crime for doctors to remove healthy wombs

sakura184 · 05/07/2019 13:45

Does anybody remember that factory in America that insisted women workers get a hysterectomy or they would be fired : the women did and then got fired anyway. I think they filed a successful lawsuit against the company but so what it's too late isn't it

Goosefoot · 05/07/2019 13:55

Perhaps not at work, but it used to be more accepted with school, sports, and the like. Expected even. When they stopped expecting girls to sit out, it seems like they also stopped accepting it.

placemats · 05/07/2019 13:58

No trans with a gender reassignment surgery male to 'female' has their prostate gland removed. Funny that.

NonnyMouse1337 · 05/07/2019 14:03

This is so awful and heartbreaking. The reality for many women around the world is so inhumane. And there is no justice for them. Makes me so angry.

SomeDyke · 05/07/2019 14:11

I remember women who delivered planes for the forces originally were told they were not supposed to fly whilst menstruating. When sanitary items were discovered in the plane facilities, they were told to be more careful. I know of women in the Navy who used to take Depo Provera, not because she feared pregnancy (she's a lesbian, but at the time admitting that would have earnt her a dishonourable discharge), but to stop her periods whilst at sea. The issues that many of us have to deal with every month for 40 odd years, that is a part of female biology you can't opt out off. But we all know, if we once admit maybe there is a female -specific issue, then they'll come back and say -- 'always told you hysterical women weren't fit to do the job' (think original meaning of hysterical and hysterectomy folks!).

Men with prostate problems are never required to have them removed because it interferes with their work.

placemats · 05/07/2019 14:25

This practice of removal of the uterus should be on a par with genital mutilation.

A woman's genitals are not just what is seen from the outside. It's a connective system in which part of it needs to be internal for very obvious biological reasons. It is also a part of a woman's sexuality. Removal should only be done in case of serious life threatening events or disease.

plattercake · 05/07/2019 14:38

This is horrific :( Poor women. its heart breaking to read what they have to suffer.

Company name or state of location, or possible date range please? I find this story very hard to believe. I checked in with some attorney friends and family (health, insurance, and corporate disciplines) and they said you made it up.

But if it is true I would really like to know about it... Googling has not yielded any viable results - can you help me out?
