Safe schools alliance

There was a thread but it went for some reason. Anyway, the safe schools alliance have launched a website. Looks good.

OP posts:

I found googling Safe Schools Alliance UK weeded out a lot of chaff, and brought up a link to the website as the 7th option.

I'm sure it will climb the listing in the same way that Transgender Trend has done, because parents in the UK are becoming concerned at what has been happening in schools and looking for information that they can trust, information that is in line with the law and follows established safeguarding protocols.

Sunkisses · 04/07/2019 09:50

I am very concerned that one poster - EeveePHD - can make a false and vexatious claim that Safe Schools Alliance UK are 'advertising' (they campaign for better safeguarding in schools ffs) and @MNHQ capitulate. Which moderator did this? Is there another TRA intern on the loose?

The SSA website is a brilliant resource for parents, and this is a PARENTING WEBSITE ffs! I really wanted to know where I could go to, to get info on how to contact my LEA re equalities and protecting the rights of girls in schools. Please reinstate the post MNHQ!

Yes, those template letters would have been really helpful to me when trying to understand what my DC are being taught. It’s a brilliant resource

GColdtimer · 04/07/2019 11:39

It looks like MN have not only deleted the thread it looks like they have banned SSAUK too. I tried to message the account from my account and was told it was unavailable. I asked why and was told:

Thanks for getting in touch.
If you wish to contact Safe Schools Alliance, you can find contact details on their website: safeschoolsallianceuk.net/.

We don't allow advertising and promotion on Mumsnet, so it's best to contact them off the boards.

Best wishes
Lily MNHQ

MN have not been in touch with SSAUK by email to discuss the deletion or the ban.

Yes. I'm a bit gobsmacked that a campaigning organisation about child safeguarding could be regarded as advertising by providing information about its website on a parenting forum.

I can think of dozens of other examples of providing access to campaigning websites (by the founders) right across MN. I won't name them for obvious reasons.

This would appear to be in response to a Twitter post:

Safeguarding children really does upset some people, doesn’t it

What a shame to see MNHQ responding that way Sad

FormerMediocreMale · 04/07/2019 12:13

Yes it really i bizarre how anyone can be against safeguarding.

I have contacted them and asked to get involved.

FormerMediocreMale · 04/07/2019 12:20

According to mimmymum if you don't follow NSPCC - a charity with rather concerning abuse accusations against it regarding children - then we don't care about children.

If we don't support a women's charicharity that centres males we do not care about women...

Totally missing the point of why new organisations have been created - the existing ones have let us down so no we don't support them!

truthisarevolutionaryact · 04/07/2019 12:20

Ok - it's a bit clearer now having read the links that LangCleg put up.

I do have sympathy for MNHQ being on the receiving end of all these reports - and if it's concerning an external site can understand an initial capitulation as it must be difficult to be certain that a site referenced is legitimate.

What I do take from it is how determined certain adults / groups are to have the right to directly access children without question and how hard they will work to discredit anyone who raises concerns about safeguarding and rights.

Sunkisses · 04/07/2019 12:42

WHY are TRAs trying to get any information about safeguarding of children in schools removed from a parenting forum? This is deeply sinister. Please provide an explanation - to SSA and to parents on this forum - for this utterly bizarre decision @MNHQ

GColdtimer · 04/07/2019 12:43

@FormerMediocreMale have you contacted SSAUK? Was it email, FB, website or Twitter. PM me if you like. I am involved with SSAUK.

Sunkisses · 04/07/2019 12:50

Those TRA tweets above claim that Safe Schools Alliance were asking for money. SSA was not asking for money. They don't have a donate feature on their website. They simply posted to provide a valuable resource for the 1,000s of parents on here who are concerned about safeguarding of all children in schools. Why is this being suppressed by TRAs and MHHQ? This is just bizarre, and the capitulation of MNHQ to TRAs is just so sinister.

FormerMediocreMale · 04/07/2019 13:00

*GColdTimer i have completed the contact form on the SSA website. I live in Aberdeenshire and the Murray/Mearns Acadamy situation is just horrifying.

Datun · 04/07/2019 13:03

Agreed. If HQ don't know who they are, surely they can just ask for verification by contacting them?

Datun · 04/07/2019 13:04

If TRAs don't like what is being provided on that website, they can come on here and explain why. Just tell people. Why wouldn't you?

GColdtimer · 04/07/2019 13:05

Thanks, Former. I think someone has replied. I agree, it is terrible.

And yes, there is no way to donate as SSAUK isn't doing any fundraising and have no way of collecting money. We are just a group of individuals pulling together resources for the benefit of teachers, parents etc and connecting people to help each other out all across the UK. We are delighted that so many people are already finding the resource useful.

GColdtimer · 04/07/2019 13:07

I can confirm that MNHQ has not been in touch with SSAUK to talk about the thread or why the account has been banned. Nothing, no communication at all.

Elletorro · 04/07/2019 13:39

Safe Schools Alliance is a grassroots campaign group with an impressive impact in very little time.

3 local authorities have withdrawn sexist non safeguarding compliant policies and the NSPCC has dropped a sexist non safeguarding compliant official advocate due to their interventions,

Investigations were undertaken due to their whistleblowing and their concerns were found to be legitimate.

High impact, low effort (given they have provided precedents to help guide parents in challenging their own school). Brilliant resource.

FormerMediocreMale · 04/07/2019 14:10

Got the email thanks Gcold.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/07/2019 14:13

unwitting right wing supremacists

How can you be an unwitting supremacist?

Surely you’d know if you were being all supremacy

Witless id understand...just not unwitting

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 04/07/2019 14:28

I agree.

LangCleg · 04/07/2019 14:54

At the last point I saw the thread, someone had asked if there was a way to donate and I agreed that if there were such a way, I would also donate.

This did not come from SSA. It was a spontaneous offer from an MNer.

LangCleg · 04/07/2019 14:54

Safe Schools Alliance is a grassroots campaign group with an impressive impact in very little time.

Seconded.

HandsOffMyRights · 04/07/2019 15:12

Eevee (that's one of children's favourite Pokemon too). Just curious if you are a parent and what your views on safeguarding are?

I am a parent, female and also work with schools, so I am invested in ensuring that safeguarding is first and foremost in schools.

My children's schools are teaching some inaccurate and dangerous/regressive material thanks to Stonewall.

Thank you SSA for setting up a very useful service gor concerned parents.

0ttoline · 04/07/2019 15:26

@MNHQ please can you comment on this?

How did the previous thread by SSA break talk guidelines? I have reread the guidelines and I don't get it.

May no one mention any other website they are involved with on mumsnet now? Or is there some special reason not to tell people about a children's safeguarding site?

Can you let SSAUK know why you have banned them, or better yet, reinstate their account?

I for one would like to hear more from them here.
