Furious Frenchwoman films man masturbating opposite her on a train – and now faces a BIGGER penalty than him for infringing his privacy

Natacha Bras, 37, filmed a man masturbating close to her on a train in France
Footage went viral after she posted it online to get response from train company
The perpetrator could face €15,000 fine - but Ms Bras could be fined triple this for breaching France's strict privacy laws

@ZebrasAreBras Wait till the revenge porn law gets used against women.

Five years ago a couple were suspicious about the behaviour of a workman while they were not at home. So they left a camera running and it caught him having a wank in their living room. Now yes i get that this is rather specific but if a woman living alone was suspicious and did the same thing and then e mailed it to the persons employer would that be classed as sharing revenge porn.

It's masturbating, as per the link.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/07/2019 21:00

See I like the idea of 'expectation of privacy'. So I cannot be filmed in my home, changing room or toilet. But on a bloody TRAIN, in front of other people, I have no expectation of privacy. And the wanking workman is in his place of work = no expectation of privacy.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/07/2019 21:01

What is it with the grammar and spelling police today? Bloody everywhere.

HelenaDove · 02/07/2019 21:17

Yes i know I thought it .looked wrong but i was watching Ackerley Bridge so not giving it my full attention Spelling is very usually one of my strong points.

I usually ignore spelling but it is one that really stands out for me, I don't know why.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/07/2019 21:25

Yes, why would he have expectation of privacy wanking on a train?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 02/07/2019 21:44

It reminds me of a story I read in the paper some years back. Due to signalling problems a packed commuter train halted for a good few minutes in a part of the track it had never stopped at before

The commuters overlooking some gardens could all see a bloke having sex with a young cow. He had no cover - nowhere to hide. He thought he could expect privacy. How very wrong he was

The funniest thing about it was that they'd sent a police officer (not a vet) to check on the cow. The poor man. He had to stand in the witness box and answer questions about the potential psychological state of the cow.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 02/07/2019 21:47

The man was found guilty, in case anyone is interested.

Erythronium · 02/07/2019 21:50

He was flashing at her, he wanted her to see and be afraid. Rapists often have flashing as an entry level crime. This is a dangerous man.

I'm sure in other courts, maybe American, it's been ruled that women can have no expectation of privacy in public spaces and thus are fair game for upskirt photos. Men's laws always work for men.

Mistigri · 02/07/2019 22:15

I can't find any evidence (in the French press) that she is being prosecuted. She has said on twitter that the police have seen the videos, took it seriously and have opened a case.

FermatsTheorem · 02/07/2019 22:28

The French privacy laws are ridiculous. There was a case a few years ago where a government minister (defence I think) was awarding big contracts to his mistress's company (in violation of rules about going out to tender) and the French press were blocked from reporting it by their privacy laws.

I agree the way to frame a sensible law is that you have an expectation of privacy in your own home/toilets/changing rooms, but not in public places.

Was he in the quiet carriage??

In the US, video surveillance and recording laws are not federally mandated; rather, they vary by state. Some states do have laws regarding expectation of privacy, and ban any recording in sensitive areas, (bathrooms, changing rooms, etc.). Others do not. About half of all states have laws specifically regarding hidden cameras. That said, I think we all know that laws don't seem to reliably prevent male aggression or crime.

If the Daily Mail is to be believed, the man was committing a sexual assault. As a PP says upthread, flashing etc are "entry level" crimes for rapists. This man is a sexual criminal.
