Another retailer of womens menstrual products that refuses to use the word "woman". Very disappointed!

Oh, dammit, I liked Imse Vimse, too.

Lots and lots of small one-woman businesses making reusable pads, fwiw. I might just make my own ...

Its far better for the environment to buy locally anyway than to have everything flown across from Sweden.

This is from an article on the BBC News website today - extraordinary how they tie themselves in knots trying not to use the word “woman” in an article about cervical smears:

A cervical screening, or smear test, is a free test to prevent cancer where a small sample of cells is taken from the opening to your womb from the vagina.
Individuals from the age of 25 are invited for screening every three years. Those aged 50 to 64 are invited every five years.
But figures show around one in four don't go to their smear tests in the UK.

So bloody obvious what they’re doing, it’s almost laughable. But not quite.

The word 'women' is being removed from women's products so that people who say they are NOT women don't feel excluded confused That's about the size of it, isn't it? confused
Isn't it more to do with people who identify as women but actually have a penis getting angry about the assumption they (women) might have a cervix?

Yes. It's about breaking the link between female and woman, or female bodies and women.

Compare and contrast with how male bodies are talked about in relation to prostate or testicular cancer. And how "let's talk about men" these campaigns are.

I think the Gillette campaign with the father teaching his trans daughter how to shave shows this isn’t just happening to women any more. Fortunately there has been some pushback.

Eh? I haven’t seen that one. Sounds a bit.. erm... not quite sure what word I’m looking for. 🤔

I haven't seen that ad. I guess that's slightly more acceptable as ftm transgender people do develop facial hair if they've had hormone treatment. But mtf transgender people don't grow uteruses and ovaries.

Oh ffs, I really like their stuff too and am also annoyed they have my money!

Natsku · 29/06/2019 06:21

It would be a good idea to make a list of companies that sell products specifically for females e.g. menstruation products that actually use the word woman/women so we can spend our money there like meluna for menstrual cups and wuka for period pants (both brands I recently switched to for this reason)

What's interesting is that they still use the word 'women' on the German site.

There is plenty of wokeness in Germany too, but I wonder if it's just not quite as ingrained as in the UK/US.
