Why is legitimate critism being called transphobic?

Help me understand? A drag artist buys a club in a town and receives a letter criticising a lot of things inc. breaking licence conditions and cleanliness but they also ask why the owner uses the men's when dressed in men's clothes and the ladies when dressed in women's clothes. This has been called transphobic and caused uproar...but is it? The local labour party published a letter in support referring to it as transphobic. (As an aside the lgbtq+ officer who co-signed this has a statement on their public profile that they won't seperate their fetish from their public life - is this OK now?) I'm just so confused!

This is today’s world. Its one of those rules about whatever men do is great; women, not so much.

Criticism is banned. See also Stalin’s Russia, Mao’s China etc. etc....

LizzieSiddal · 28/06/2019 07:48

No it isn’t ok.
People are asking legitimate questions and the shouts of transphobia mean they don’t actually have to answer these very important questions.

To silence people.
To erode safeguarding practices.
To shame young homosexual women into changing their sexual boundaries or* their bodies.

*not bi, pan or homogenderal women.

2BthatUnnoticed · 28/06/2019 07:56

To answer your OP though, of course it isn’t transphobic. Labour has seriously lost it. What do you mean, someone says they won’t separate fetish from work ?

They posted two follow up videos. One apologising to the previous owners for lying about how they left the club and another saying they're giving the place up on Sunday (after a performance as their act Miss Thunderpussy on Sat) because they're clearly not welcome in the town. I can't help but think if a woman acted like this to critism they would be laughed out! Not receiving public support from local politicians and press. Is claiming transphobia a get out of jail free card now?
This whole thing has really opened my eyes . In the video they threaten to have people arrested for questioning their bathroom choices and also claim to have a female birth certificate whilst also seeming to say they only identify as a woman part time? This is just nonsense surely? Is it really possible to be legally female whilst only identifying part time?

The suffix phobic when tacked onto a political group/beliefs system Li’s short hand for ‘you don’t blindly accept whatever I say’.

Gredblogs · 28/06/2019 08:08

The lgbtq+ officer is a "rubberman" and his pictures are of him in his rubber suits. I'm sure there would have been a time when this was problematic!

This club owner is providing a public service when providing toilet facilities for his customers and the toilets provided are sex segregated.

This man's behaviour could be in breach of the Equality Act 2010 wherein Schedule 3, section 27 [single sex services], subsection 6 states:

(6) The condition is that—

(a) the service is provided for, or is likely to be used by, two or more persons at the same time, and

(b) the circumstances are such that a person of one sex might reasonably object to the presence of a person of the opposite sex.

www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/schedule/3

From what is said, women have objected to having this man in their private space and he is ignoring them.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 28/06/2019 08:18

The video is actually very revealing. He literally says,

‘ when I’m dressed as a girl’

Note, the word used by this grown man ( yes MNHQ he appears as a man some of the time ) is girl and he says he’s dressing as a girl, not a woman. He thinks his clothing is what gets him access to a female changing room.

Yes, if you are a bepenised person, used to be known as man or bloke. Not so much if you belong to the late sex class called women.

Gredblogs · 28/06/2019 08:43

Probably worth adding that since reopening the club has been heavily targeted at families inc. opening "Europe's biggest pinball games room" and hosting kids groups. I don't think there's any sinister intent with the toilet choices - just entitlement - but honestly, how would you tell? My Mum would warn me against men acting in a way that made me feel uncomfortable and tell me to trust my instincts but it seems I have to tell mine the opposite. Don't question that person who was presenting themselves as a man yesterday and is now in the ladies in a wig, that's hateful darling and you can be arrested for that!

Don’t tell children they can’t question it. This is what abusers want. Maybe not to the abusers, but if there are any concerns, get out of the situation and tell someone else.

Gredblogs · 28/06/2019 12:43

@Chickenish certainly wouldn't tell mine not to question but I do worry that whilst I wasn't paying attention teachers, people in public positions etc. have been pushing a message that's totally at odds with safeguarding without me really noticing. It seemed so absurd when I saw this I thought I must have been confused or missing something. But no, our local labour party is really made up by people ranting about "terfs" and our prospective mp's campaign is being run by someone in a rubber suit who publishes bdsm and fetish Harry Potter posts on his public profile. Whilst teachers and other people whose judgement I'd usually trust are rallying us to go to the club in support of the owners choice to use the ladies when in a wig and the mens when not. I must have been sleepwalking to miss this and I dread to think what else has been pushed whilst I wasn't paying attention.

I'm just waiting for national 'bring your fetish to work day', or furries demanding their employers provide water bowls and a dog basket.
