How is this ok?

I'm trying to challenge my thoughts but I simply can't see it as in anyway appropriate.

Go to a proper dance class or do school 'talent' show, the outfit isn't a massive issue, but there certainly should not be context of collecting cash. Boy or girl.

It looks completely normalised here.

It isn't.

I was pretty Confused, until it got to the point where adults handed the 8 year old child money for dancing for them, and then I was Shock

It’s not ok

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/06/2019 10:26

Absolutely Bernard.

It looked like a poor holiday club 'talent' show (though obviously the compare was a heads up); the money part was the part that made me feel sick.

Plus the baby being held up to hand over money.

Not OK. Never going to be OK. I don't care how many people think I'm a prude, it's exploitation, normalises the sexualisation of children, and every adult supporting it should be ashamed. Remember the phrase "it takes a village to rape a child"? This is that village.

I thought it was going to be Desmond but it's another one?
What's going on? why is drag luring in so many prepubescents?
Desmond, Lactatia, this one, just... people need to wake up right now.

LassOfFyvie · 24/06/2019 22:17

He or she is a terrible dancer. You might think that's irrelevant, but it isn't. If the child performer is actually rubbish at what they are doing (which they all are) it rather forces the question of what exactly is the point?

No it's not ok. There were women handing out money too.

Goosefoot · 25/06/2019 00:33

That is crappy dancing.

And yes, the money thing is really disturbing. I am wondering what kind of event this was?

I will say however that aside from the money and lack of ability, I have a relative whose daughter is in competitive dance, and the costumes and dancing are far, far more sexualised and inappropriate, and yet everyone seems to think it's just great. It's been that way since the kids were in quite young age groups as well.

Here he is.

Not sure how it's spreading diversity.

So, would a girl wearing that outfit and dancing that dance be given money and lauded for it? No?

If a girl wearing a dance outfit and dancing well was given money in that way, it would be clearly sexual and inappropriate.

It's both sexist and age inappropriate.

It's grim.

NeurotrashWarrior

Kween KeeKee proclaims you can be anything you want to be!

That is the video descriptors. Gee, I wonder what audience they are targeting with that cutesy name and that vague uplifting message?

Also from the article:

A third-grade teacher asked her class what they wanted to be when they grow up, and Keegan wrote in his memory book these words: "gender creative."

Where did he even get that term from at that age (not his parents, surely.../s)

Keegan said he can be himself when he's wearing a dress.

So why can’t he wear a dress? Why the drag makeup and dancing for adults and even for money? My brother insisted on wearing a skirt for several months when he was 5. My sister wore a mermaid costume for a year when she was a toddler. I insisted on wearing the same dress four days a week when I was 7.

At least Keegan apparently prefers male pronouns...for now anyway.
