Four women complained of being abused between 1995 and 2005 when they were aged between 12 and 16.

During the course of an investigation police said they had arrested dozens of people across Bradford, Leeds, Kirklees and other areas of the country.

Those arrested within the past two weeks include 36 men and three women. Five other men were arrested earlier.

I'm so glad this child abuse is being exposed and people will go to prison but I don't ever think the sentences are harsh enough. I don't ever read these news stories and think justice will be served. I also don't see a way for it to be prevented which is ultimately what the police and the public should be fighting for.

These children will never be the same, their whole lives will be affected in a multitude of ways and the men and women will never suffer like they did. I'm not an eye for an eye kind of person but I do think the criminal justice system and safeguarding is failing these children but not doing more.

At least (and I find it horrifying that this is the case) action is being taken. Look at this:

Rape and child abuse among crimes that never reached court

Concerns have been raised over police use of out of court disposals after an investigation found they had been used against guidance for major offences.

Rape, child abduction, arson with intent to endanger life and grooming were among the grave crimes resolved via ‘community resolution’ by the region’s forces between 2014 and 2018.

The disposals – used more than 35,000 times in the North-East – are designed to tackle minor offences and will not appear on criminal records or basic DBS checks. They are not classed as convictions.

Child abduction and rape not appearing on DBS checks? Ian Huntley right there. How on earth?

How can the police get away with that?

Lots of grooming crimes seem to be reported once the girls are adults and understand fully what's happened to them. I hope there are procedures in place to spot grooming as it happens.

About bloody time...this has been going on for years and years in West Yorkshire and the police did nothing even when told addresses, given car numbers etc. They should be going back to the early 90s as well. What the hell does community resolution mean in these circumstances? Those men in those days are now the fathers and grandfathers of today, presumably the community . Full of admiration for those women who must have been profoundly damaged by the abuse they suffered. But I have no faith that justice will be done as the CPS clearly are backing off actuall prosecutions.
