Resources for an 8 year old girl?

I want to give my 8 year old daughter more information about Feminism and her rights as a young woman / woman as she gets older. Where is a good place to start? My knowledge is pretty limited to mainstream concepts, I'd like to learn more as well. I'm quite dismayed with how much her school has ideas about gender stereotypes that are very rigid, the girls are encouraged to be quiet, compliant, feminine and are rewarded for it. Anything outside of that girly box is not, and it's really starting to grate on me. The boys can do / be what they like and she's already questioning why and feeling frustrated. Meanwhile there's also this whole culture going on below the surface of girls using relational aggression against each other and some of the mums are as bad.

Can anyone recommend any websites, books etc for us to learn more? Or any organisations or groups?

This website is a great place to start.

There’s some really excellent books in the shops right now about women in history doing great things, such as scientists. Being able to show that in the past, some women could only study science at university if they were hidden behind a board, for example.

I like amighty girl a lot, lots of good reading suggestions in there. I also honestly credit reading a lot of fiction with female characters with why I never felt like I needed to ‘become’ a feminist, I just was. As well as some of the explicitly feminist books I would encourage your daughter to be reading all the time, books about girls having adventures are so valuable I think - Gave me such a sense of women having interesting inner lives. Even kids versions of Greek myths were stories I remember making me think about what it’s like to be a woman. All those goddesses storming about being complicated and powerful and terrifying.
