I recommend buying a copy of the new issue (dated 14-27 June). Good to see Private Eye shining a light on this individual. I can't quite manage to screenshot the whole thing but the gist of it is here.

Maybe Private Eye will pick up the NSPCC story

hoodathunkit · 14/06/2019 07:27

only just read the article

Edward Lord involved with TEAS, oh dear

Of interest to readers, a now removed Graun piece, thankfully archived

The late reggae artist Smiley Culture was also involved with TEAS, it's an interesting organisation

Linking the bit in the article about how Edward Lord has defended countries in which homosexuality is illegal with the LOJ thread, how come some types of homophobia (and I’m not sure homophobia is the right word to describe the imprisonment and execution of gay people) are more allowable than others? The pick and mix moral outrage of LOJ and his supporters is shocking.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/06/2019 12:41

That would be because Owen is such a bro and it's nasty women trying to get in the way of men's right to wank at work, whereas Edward Lord is a Chap and therefore One Of Us so he can't possibly be doing anything out of line.

borntobequiet · 14/06/2019 13:41

I never have to recycle PE because friends are always happy to have my copies when I've finished with them. I used to leave them at the doctor's surgery but they have put a stop to having secondhand mags and books.

CircleofWillis · 15/06/2019 06:53

The bit about half the votes being thrown out because the voters refused to engage with the 'gender assigned at birth' nonsense is shocking. What a great way to exclude gender critical participants. True silencing of women!

Resurrecting this old thread as City of London elections are open to people working or living in the City...

Private Eye, late to wake up and come to the party, but welcome nevertheless. Really sinister the way the results to the consultation appear to have been manipulated so easily by excluding those who refused to answer the question about gender identity - talk about rigging the results.

I recently saw an interview with Ian Hislop and he's hopeful for the future of print - and committed to paying journalists fairly. I think a subscription for this would be very good value.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 09/11/2021 08:26

I think a subscription to Private Eye will be the perfect Christmas gift to myself.

So registering to vote is free and is entry into a competition to win £100, and you could then vote out Edward Lord (they/them)?

Batmammy · 09/11/2021 09:06

Is this the Edward Lord whose partner is/was the gender psychologist activist Meg John Barker?

OneEpisode · 09/11/2021 09:09

Yes, that Edward Lord. And the same one who was discovered in a journalist”s sting to be willing to lobby for a human rights abusing client.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/11/2021 09:29

This is a 2019 thread, @Crankyoldboiler, so Private Eye was actually ahead of the curve here. Francis Wheen is gender critical, I believe. I saw him at a meeting in London 2 or 3 years ago - WPUK, I think. He's one of the key people who write for the Eye. Don't know Ian Hislop's views. He probably has to be careful because of his job on HIGNFY.

nauticant · 09/11/2021 09:38

This is my favourite revealing moment from Meg John Barker:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6125081/Alright-duck-British-women-emotional-caring-say-therapists-unless-northern.html
It then adds: ‘In some northern working-class contexts femininity is associated with strength and aggression.’

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 09/11/2021 11:11

An excellent idea about a subscription to PE for Christmas.

Thank you.

Zeugma · 09/11/2021 11:47

I started this thread in 2019 - tbh at the time I think I’d hoped Private Eye might have done more on the whole gender ideology issue, especially since they’re fairly terrier-like about stories once they get hold of them, but they’ve been pretty quiet, albeit with a few good items and a couple of telling cartoons along the way.

I’m a subscriber anyway but it’s still worth keeping an eye on what they have to say, I think.

I love my subscription to Private Eye, it's an ongoing Xmas pressie from my son. They are great at persistently digging in to stories that get overlooked by the main stream.

The Post Office IT scandal and Deepcut Barracks for example. Two stories they have not allowed the establishment to bury.

Hopefully they'll do more GC stuff too. They are obviously aware.

Gosh, and this lovely individual (or plurality) actually represents my ward. That is fortunate.

CheeseMmmm · 10/11/2021 02:36

I'd forgotten about lord.

So so dodgy. Partner to meg John thingy iirc. Also v dodgy...
