EVAW, represented by the Centre for Women’s Justice (CWJ), began legal action against the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) today (10 June), claiming that the CPS has covertly changed its policy and practice in relation to decision-making on rape cases, leading to a dramatic fall in the number of rape cases being charged.

We argue that this change in practice, and the resulting collapse in cases going to court, discriminates against women and girls, and is a major failure to protect their human rights. It is appalling that such a change should be implemented at a time when more women than ever are coming forward and reporting this serious crime.

Victim's Commissioner for London also tweeting concerns.

That's awful. This really needs challenging at the highest level as women and girls are being let down by a system that is loaded against them from the start.

HumberElla · 11/06/2019 17:45

Good! Glad this is being challenged. Let’s see them defend it publicly.

BreakWindandFire · 11/06/2019 19:27

This is very much needed.

I believe that Mumsnet rules don't allow me to link directly to Crowdfunding appeals.

But I assume that I can highlight that EVAW and the Centre for Women's Justice are in desperate need of funding to do this, and there's a certain little linkie in the article by the OP. Wink

It's a disgrace that women have to fund justice.

Absolute disgrace. Happy to put whatever I can spare aside for all these crowdfunders - but compare it against other charities who are funded by corporate and govt - some specifically for women's rights!!

The most articulate I can get without being banned is a eyebrow lift, Paddington bear hard stare, icy voice, Really

I have given something I'm not allowed to talk about to something I'm not allowed to talk about.

DpWm · 11/06/2019 23:34

Thankyou

ZebrasAreBras · 11/06/2019 23:48

Yes, this is a disgrace and needs challenging.

I feel MNHQ should make an exception when it comes to this particular legal crowdfunder - we are a feminist board, this is clearly no kind of scam, and it is absolutely fighting violence against women and girls.

It's a very good cause.

Imnobody4 · 12/06/2019 15:17

lawyers will be paid nothing unless this case wins. But we still need money for court fees, for expert statistical analysis of the data about rape prosecutions, and to pay the Government’s costs if we lose. The End Violence Against Women Coalition is a small charity and is simply not in a position to bear that costs risk alone.
I have such admiration for the tenacity and commitment of this group of women. Support for their action is vital. As ever women must support women.

The thing we are not allowed to talk about has just exceed the initial target we can't mention in under 3 days. Wink

There is of course now a stretch target to reach, as the initial amount was the absolute bare minimum needed to kick this off.

JackyHolyoake · 12/06/2019 17:37

Thank you for linking to this. Donation made.

OvaHere · 12/06/2019 17:55

Thanks for highlighting will go check out the thing.

This really needs challenging.

Yes it really is.

It's a disgrace that women have to fund justice

It is disgraceful, but if you look at the fundraising page, the vast majority of donations are small ones. Lots of women (and some men) chipping in £5 and £10 which is all they can give, but the sheer numbers of people supporting this has built a really solid fighting fund.
