Perhaps the most mealy mouthed editorial I've read from the Guardian. They really don't want to accept that their approach on these issues might be wrong and pissing off readers (those they have left)

Notbad...they are brilliant aren't they. A bit like DM comments at their worst. Actually coming to think about it, DM comments are improving as if their readership has become more rational.

New theory..the more batshit DM readers have migrated to the Guardian.

There is already an existing thread for issues as they relate to the Guardian. Maybe it would be better if all posts were made there - save clogging up the forum, and making it easier to locate Guardian related talk?

Most of the hostility towards women is coming from the left. The Guardian included.

The Guardian is not the left. It is a hardcore anti-left paper.

Hello
I've just signed up here after lurking for a few weeks.
I'm male, I've been buying the Guardian for 30 years, and what brought me here was the paper's reporting of transgender issues and women's spaces.
I don't mind when they publish stuff I disagree with, but I don't believe the paper is honest anymore - they won't open comments on trans articles, they don't publish stories that are negative (though true!) about trans people, they won't even support their own long-time writer when she is physically attacked.
Thank you to Mumsnet and all its contributors. I finally feel like I'm learning something and hearing the opinions of women .. you know, actual women with vaginas and stuff.
I still cannot quite bring myself to buy the Times, but the Guardian won't be getting another penny from me either. I'll be reading it for the sports pages (I'm still a bloke) and the few remaining trustworthy columnists.
Thanks once again, and please keep up your crucial work.

"The argument between trans activists and feminists regarding proposed legal reforms has unfortunately become extremely bitter. Both groups feel their identities and beliefs are threatened by each other."

Women are having their identities threatened; TRAs are having their beliefs threatened.

A belief isn’t an identity. It is not, and should not, be protected.

I like the editorial tbh

They really believe Julie Bindel wants to exterminate people. And because someone is "Non binary" they get a free pass to be violent.... Jeeezus.

I also note comments are not open for this piece, as usual

The Guardian never allows comments about trans issues these days, which is very revealing. They know that the majority of their readers aren't buying the 'stunning & brave' propaganda, and that women have legitimate concerns, but they are suppressing debate.

It will cost them readers.

The Guardian has closed comments on all articles that deal with sensitive or controversial issues - so anything to do with feminism, racism, Israel, trans rights etc. I think that's partly to do with the moderation load (these articles used to attract a huge volume of comments) and partly, as you say, because so many commenters disagreed vehemently with the Guardian's editorial line. Sadly, articles on feminism used to attract loads of misogynists and articles on racism used to attract loads of racists.

I do think the Guardian really needs to wake up to what the majority of its readers think about their appalling anti-woman bias. Maybe they genuinely don't realise how many female readers and older readers have stopped buying the paper in disgust. Maybe they believe that appealing to people who think like Owen Jones is the way to go - though I'm pretty sure that the people who like Owen Jones spend all their time on Twitter and haven't forked out £2.50 to buy a copy of the Guardian in their lives.

Interesting to hear your perspective Alias. It would be great if more men were willing to call out the anti-woman bias in the media. The (actual) brave & stunning women currently fighting this are subject to extreme abuse.
