I saw recently a Scotland's Equality Network campaign in Scotland has garnered 6,000 emails in support of self ID. I plan to write to my representatives to ask them to support women and girls' sex based rights. They ought to know that their is opposition to self ID as well as support.

So, dear Mumsnetters, I'd appreciate any feedback you may have on the letter:

I’m writing to you as a constituent, to ask you to support women’s rights to single sex spaces.

The Gender Recognition Act Self Identification proposals supported by Trans Rights Activists threaten women and girls’ hard won sex based rights.

I ask you to consider:

• Womens' spaces: The protection of womens’ single sex spaces, particularly in prisons, refuges, toilets and changing rooms, and girls’ spaces in schools, should be respected, as laid out in the Equality Act.

• Children: Support the NHS’ stance of ‘watchful waiting’ rather than affirmative action for children who believe themselves to be ‘in the wrong body’. Trans ideology is based on unscientific and sexist principles and should not be promoted in schools.
• Freedom of Speech: The right to discuss issues pertaining to sex and gender without threat should be respected and protected.

I am asking you to urgently support the rights of women and girls.

Don’t allow Self ID to erode the protections we so clearly need. Don’t allow safeguarding to be pushed aside in an effort to be ‘inclusive’.

Above all, when rights conflict we must be allowed to discuss the implications without fear for our safety. Too many women are threatened by the violent and coercive actions of trans-rights activists. In 2019, women should not be afraid to meet and discuss our rights.

You might want to include a link to this report:

I support your stance on women's spaces, especially where vulnerable people are concerned. But how an NHS doctor decides to treat someone who comes to them regarding their own bodily issues is none of your business.

The personal is always preferable to mass automated spam campaign emails.

My suggestion is to keep it short, as you've done, but also include a request for an appointment or a note of surgery times, and go and have a face-to-face conversation with your MSP if at all possible.

Everyone's got 8 MSPs who will vote on this matter in due course, so go see them all! Put your postcode in here to find out who they are.

There are also some briefing notes here which summarise the issues in Scotland and are good for taking along/emailing afterwards.

Thanks, MrsSnippy, that's an excellent idea.

Spudina, thanks - I perhaps agree regards doctors when we are discussing adults, but not children. I am very concerned about children being potentially offered puberty blockers; I think this is not something a child can fully consent to as they're not aware of the potential implications. I am only suggesting the NHS' own principles are adhered to, that's all. Maybe I should word this more clearly.

Betsy, thank you. Most of the MSPs I can potentially visit are known for their career politicking. I don't honestly think they will give a toss about womens' rights, unless its threatening to impinge on their ego or career. But it might be worth a shot. :)
