No retrial, her plea to manslaughter accepted, and sentenced to time served.

So happy for her and her family, and such a huge step for victims of abuse.

Love to Sally and her sons and ⭐️ for all the rad fems who supported her. Sisterhood in action.

What everyone else has said. Really good news.

Progress. So glad for her, and her sons.

I am the (female - she had 4 brothers and 2 sons) relative who started the appeal for Sally when I saw the injustice of the first trial. Harriet and Justice For Women are amazingly dedicated and inspirational. We have finally got the right result. Thanks for the kind words above.

AIBU to want to put the hammer thing straight? It’s just not true that she took it intending to kill Richard. She took it to break up furniture as they were to start a new life together (said Richard) in Australia once they had disposed of their things. There was already a hammer in the home, as Sally knew full well, but a second was needed so she could help. On the day of the offence, that is indeed what they had been doing all morning - breaking up furniture in the garage so it would fit in the skip. The problem was that Sally was a traumatised automaton In court, replying super softly “I suppose so” to every single thing the prosecution QC put to her. She would have agreed the moon was made of cheese. So when the prosecuting QC put it to her that she had taken the hammer intending to kill, Sally said she supposed so. She had been controlled for so long that she would never have contradicted anyone in authority. This then became a “fact”. Whilst it is nonetheless untrue.

I am so glad she is free, but so sorry for all her suffering. I nearly strangled my father when I was a child, as he was hitting me... so I have some deep feelings on this and for all the women in Sally’s position Flowers

Jessica Flowers. Sorry to hear about your difficult childhood.

Find it hard to celebrate something that will just be abused to mitigate violence and murder of partners going forward (both men and women).

Flowers This breaks my heart.
