Listened to the podcast 'When Orla met...Pippa York' yesterday as I like her (Orla's) interviews.
I was fuming. Now Robert Millar is Pippa York he acts like a laydee...laydees are not competitive, not-confrontational yadda yadda. Stereotypical much??? And don't get me onto how much less Pippa would have suffered if Pippa had been able to transition as a 'child'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else heard this and felt the same?

Oops I missed a 's' in the third sentence but not sure how to edit he to she or Pippa?

What did you expect?
Stereotypes and staying in predefined boxes are what it's all about.

Weird how among all this suffering and woe, these males seem to manage to have successful careers, isn't it?

Robert Millar was very competitive as a professional cyclist - wouldn't have made it as a pro if he wasn't. And that is very odd in itself really since he was actually "female" and therefore automatically non-competitive. And yet didn't just give up as a young man and retire to the fainting couch. That only came after his career was over.

Must be a real struggle for these men in their careers to have to pretend that they are NOT as crap as women actually are naturally. Such a burden to carry. Heroic. Then becoming their own true selves once they retire? Heroic again.

Insulting to female cyclists to suggest that they are not competitive.

Always the same simpering stereotypes about what a woman is. Reminds me of the fella who was a strong, successful athlete, now as a woman, couldn't carry chairs and had to demur to the male journalist interviewer to carry the chair, while 'she' gave a tinkly, feminine giggle.

It drives me nuts. Anyone would think that these athletes like being the centre of attention and when their star has faded they find another way into the limelight, by emerging as the beautiful butterfly that was hidden away for so long (hmmm).

I am not aware of any of them giving back their jerseys/medal/title on the basis they should never have been allowed in the competition, what with them being female all along.

Successful male careers first, cash in, and then "true authentic self" when the money dries up. New career in diversity beckons for a lot of them.

Contrast with women who identify as men. No sports career in men's events ever so no opportunity for the heroism. No heroism = no career in diversity. Because all the diversity gigs are reserved for white males who identify as women.

Male entitlement in action.

littlbrowndog · 31/05/2019 11:03

Jeez they are always finding their true selves

Who the fuck was having a successful career.

So they got titles. Shouldn’t the true self be giving back their titles and prizes after all the true self is now the truth

Popchyk · 31/05/2019 11:22

And where are all the successful women in their 40s, 50s and beyond now identifying as men?

"I hated being a top female barrister, the work was great but my gender was deeply distressing and inauthentic. All I ever wanted was to sit around in my Y-fronts, playing Fortnite and watching the Dave channel all day, buy a caravan and critique craft beer. Be my true authentic self, you know? Then I could get a gig at Stonewall to proclaim my heroism".

I can't even think of one. Cos, guess what, it doesn't work like that for women.

The 'brave and stunning true selves after male career' contingent is a crowded field though.

It does appear to me that becoming a 'woman' is the new fast car and running off with the secretary mid-life crisis!

It so is. Hilarious really. What do they think they're doing?

Mumfun · 31/05/2019 12:25

I think it is very similar to the narcissistic mid life crisis that hits some and secretaries are often not involved. It involves the same sort of huge change in the person, huge selfishness and willingness to destroy the family.

Having been subject to a marriage destroyed by MLC I feel great empathy with trans widows and see several of the issues as the same. I also see the same distress being caused by men who decide that they are gay and abandon wives for that reason also.

Similar with Sue Pascoe, spent a career in a professional environment where being a man is the best way to get to the top (still is now, would have been even more so when Sue started out). Retires from high powered career and Sue realises Sue has been a woman all this time.

Popchyk · 31/05/2019 13:06

Slippery, retires from high powered career, starts a new business, runs up hundreds of thousands of pounds in debts and then goes bust.

Enter "authentic new self" at that point.

See also: Sophie Cook, former Labour candidate for Parliament. Who had some similar business difficulties which involved not paying back debts before they finally found their own true selves.

Never mind the creditors though, there's a career in politics awaiting.

SlipperyLizard · 31/05/2019 13:10

Ha, I didn’t know that Popchyk! So now everyone must call Sue brave and stunning, and ignore the rest? Genius.

Popchyk · 31/05/2019 13:25

Oh yes.

Sue was campaigning in the European Elections on a "fiscally conservative outlook on economic issues" platform. I did laugh. Sue was unsuccessful in the elections.
