I think this could be a significant case. There has already been unease expressed by many clergy about the Churchof England's liturgy recognising gender transition. I really feel for this minister and his family. I don't know him but he seems to have acted with great courage and integrity. www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7070773/amp/Vicar-resigns-schools-plan-eight-year-old-pupils-sex-change-secret-parents.html

He might be the first clergyman ever dismissed for not believing in miracles.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/05/2019 20:42

WTF so the school are prepared to tell the other parents, but not the parents of the boy
I hope the vicar sue's the church for constructive dismissal

Say you have a son who tells the school he is a girl, and the school keeps this from you. Now imagine your sone is bullied for being trans. The school must inform the parents of the bully why he is being held in detention. So the kids in the school know your son identifies as a girl, the bullies know this, even the parents of the bully know this. The only person who doesn’t know is you.

Clergy do not have normal employment rights. They are office holders rather than employees. It reads as if he resigned because his bishop did not support his right to believe in biology......

I didn't realise that they had no employment rights.

mogtheexcellent · 28/05/2019 21:00

This is very worrying. My daughter is in a C of E school. We are all baptised C of E and attend church regularly. If they believe an unqualified trainer over a biologist from Oxford university what hope is there?

RedHoodGirl · 28/05/2019 21:11

I think the parents of the trans boy knew - The vicar thought that all the other parents in the school should be told also. Personally I don’t think that’s the schools place, after all, they wouldn’t send a letter out to all parents to inform them of a gay child in school, or one with a medical condition (at least, not without the family’s request)?

Manderleyagain · 28/05/2019 21:15

It's good to hear the quote from the barrister about the equality act. There seems to have been a consensus among the lbgt orgs giving advice to organisations to advise what they want the law to be, not what it is. If there was no exemption why have stonewall been trying to get it removed. Hopefully there will be some more case law at some point.
The trainer and barrister are both right about pronouns. It's not a crime (surely) but it could be a non crime hate incident. That's what the fair cop campaign is about.
Quite the photo shoot for the vicar!

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/05/2019 21:15

No it says the boys parents would not be told, but the other parents would.

What was the reason for telling parents? Was it to tell them someone of the opposite sex was going to be in changing rooms or sleeping rooms on school trips? Or so they could explain to their children/help them manage treating a boy as a girl now for example?

I agree no one else would need to be informed if someone was gay or had a medical condition, there would be no need in those cases.

GassyAss · 28/05/2019 21:25

Redhoodgirl, If my primary aged daughter was going to be sharing toilets and sleeping/changing areas in school trips with a boy I’d want to know and have a right to know. If the school decides there wasn’t going to be those kind of conflicts and the gender questioning boy was not going to be in those spaces then you can argue other parents don’t have a right to know.

TheInebriati · 28/05/2019 21:31

If the girls changing rooms, toilets and dormitories are no longer single sex then they have the right to preparation and support. Some of those girls will be dealing with menstruation very soon.

There is no excuse for not knowing that a percentage of girls are survivors of sexual assault. I do not know how anyone with a conscience can ignore their needs for this agenda.
