Modern day Slavery - an ever present hidden danger

This is a massive Women's right issue. Chances are within a mile of you now is at least one person living in slavery. Mostly women. I have lived in fear of my children being kidnapped all their lives, and you probably/should be seriously concerned about this too.

The government has not pressed this issue so more than 10,000 people in the UK are in this situation, and thats a conservative estimate. That means daily violence and rape for many. If you do one good thing this year its to sign this petition (warning disturbing), and share, get involved.

Slavery was supposedly abolished here 200 years ago - this is absolutely awful, a failure of citizens and government alike. It is an issue that can be stopped as well - there is no reason except complacency for this to happen. Please please please read and sign the petition to end modern day slavery in the United Kingdom. Thank you, love, compassion, peace to all x

Done

Signed.
It's also worth mentioning if anyone is serious about slavery, don't buy anything from Primark or Sports Direct either.

It should also be said that because of the Caste system still thriving in India, most of the slaves living in the UK are living in Indian homes.
The UK government is terrified to say anything if it means upsetting an ethnic minority group even if it means saving thousands of slaves.

Thankyou. My hope is to seriously zero tolerance it here in UK, then yes - by doing so it could well help a movement internationally. And you are right - where we put our pennies and pounds is more powerful than our vote. Thanks again. God bless. Please share.

Please take a few minutes to deeper acquaint yourself with the issue. Knowledge is power! According to www.antislavery.org/slavery-today/slavery-uk/
The most common countries of origin are Albania, Vietnam, Nigeria, Romania and Poland.

But there are British nationals living in slavery as well. And I got the numbers wrong - it is more like tens of thousands, rather than 10,000+
:( . Share, click petition - lets do our part to sort this out.

Way I see it we in Britain did a lot of shitty things when we had an empire. One thing the empire did that was an overwhelming positive is the abolition of slavery. 1 person would be too many 10,000 is a disgrace. I don’t care who it offends it should not be tolerated.

Thanks for sharing OP. That's truly horrifying.

I was part of a team that were doing an audit of a meat preparation plant that supplies lots of beef and lamb to Tesco.

This is exactly the sort of environment where modern slavery can exist as they rely on large numbers of temporary agency staff. But I was really impressed when they went through the processes they have in place to help support people in this situation and to encourage them to come forward.

One thing that I found very eye opening was a video that they show to all new starters. It's based on the real-life stories of a man and a woman and it really did surprise me how this sort of thing can go on.

Anyway, I would really recommend watching this video to understand how people can be forced into slavery and why it can be so difficult to detect:-

You say the government us doing nothing about this. I find that does not match my experience over the last few years.

Locally we have had one long running police campaign on all social media sites, radio, newspapers etc. All sorts of people were asked to keep it in mind as they went about their daily round... I am associated to one of those groups and so received an email from about half of my clients about it.

Round here there have always been a large number of Eastern European agricultural workers who gave regularly been checked on. In a couple of places very close to me individuals have been rescued from supposed employers. The people who reported them praised the police for the initial information and for their quick response. I think I could still find the specific officers who are permanently tasked with public liaison on this.

So, whilst I think more long term public education is required on this, I don't think I agree with part of your stance.

If the area I live in is the only one to do this I will apologise for that but I am pretty certain the it is not.

Thank you for supporting the petition. I feel as strongly as you on this. More involvement by all citizens can help make this a fairer - actually civilised society.

Thank you Nicky for sharing this. Stronger2gether.org look like a great organisation doing important work to help tackle the problem. I have added a link to them on the petition.

Perhaps Anti-Slavery day - October the 18th would be an opportunity for the various organisations fighting slavery to come together for discussion and exposure? What do you think?

Thank you for you passion and support on this issue. If I may, I would like to clarify that I do not say the government is not doing anything about this. My plea is that more needs to be done.

It would be great if you could share more information on the police campaign on all social media sites, radio, newspapers campaigns.

It seems there are a lot of organisations working on the issues, but the occurance of slavery still at tens of thouands in the UK alone is still just too much. Thanks again.

I think they might be the organisation that came into train our supply chain and partners. It was a real opener, and yes, far more endemic than I had realised. Horrific.
