Abortion doesn’t involve women- according to Thinx

(Hopefully) I've added a screenshot of Thinx CEOs statement on the current situation regarding abortion in Alabama.

Not once during this statement about abortion does she mention the only people it actually affects.

Of course it is emphasised how this especially affects transpeople (those will be women then). Of course. They can say trans. But they can’t say women.

They’re not “missing off” the word woman though. They’re deliberately not using it and as a result using phrases like “people with periods”. This isn’t an oversight. It’s a conscious decision to remove women from discussions about female reproductive health. Women. From reproductive health. That’s bonkers and sinister.

I was about to buy a pair - I’ll take my womanly money elsewhere.

just to say period pants are awesome. i have Modibodi which i like so much i wish they made regular pants in the same style. Cheeky wipes do ones that work just as well but i prefer the high waist on the Modibodi.

just checking they still mention women and girls before i advertise them for free.... AND yes they both do. Ahh cheeky wipes do a "When will I get my first period?" kit for girls. What a sweet idea.

That’s good to know stilathing, I’ve been considering buying a couple of pairs of period pants for a while.

It seems "Thinx" is a misnomer because thinking is something "Thinx" severely lacks. Although it scores very highly on pretentiousness.

SarahTancredi · 22/05/2019 16:51

Well I for one wont buy from a company who thinks the very people they make products for are not even good enough to mention despite being responsible for the majority of household money spending/shopping and being the entire consumers of said product

How can you make stuff when you dont even know who or what you are making it for though. Confused

BickerinBrattle · 22/05/2019 17:28

We used to talk in the US about a “war on women.”

Now it’s just a war on “some people.”

Intentionally disappearing the first and oldest axis of oppression. Intentionally disappearing patriarchy.

Who benefits? The patriarchy. Men.

In the guise of fighting women’s oppression Thinx actively colludes with it.

Outofinspiration · 22/05/2019 18:24

Meh, trans 'folx' are always the most disproportionately affected by everything - then followed by BAME people whose sole purpose apparently to give the former legitimacy.

Thinx are getting a load of shit from forced birthers on that thread, rather than about the not mentioning women thing.

Doobigetta · 22/05/2019 19:02

Either “trans and non-binary folx” are women, in which case they are affected in the same way as women, or they are not, in which case they are not fucking affected at all. Ffs.

Natsku · 22/05/2019 19:15

Wenttoseainasieve

I recently ordered period pants from Wuka, they have no problem using the word woman.

MotherWol · 22/05/2019 21:06

I guess you could argue that trans men are disproportionately affected in that they’re 100% more likely to get pregnant than non-trans men.

Because they’re women.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/05/2019 21:14

If that’s the logic then they would be saying pregnant people (because they won’t say women) are disproportionately affected by this policy. Because pregnant people are the only people affected. But that’s not what they meant by disproportionately.

Language matters.

Women have babies, only women can get pregnant therefore women are the ones affected by abortion legislation.

That's not hate speech.

Refusing to apply the word women to the class of humans born with female biology is definitely hate speech. And stupid.
