"Unbelievable bit of womb bothering in Starbucks at services . A pregnant woman got her Caramel Macchiato and the guy behind the counter said

‘Oh , it’s for you . Do you want me to make a decaf?’

She said ‘No, thanks’

Him ‘No I should because caffeine is bad for the baby’"

I exercised throughout my last pregnancy, mainly in order to keep me mentally healthy because I was struggling. One night in the gym I went over on my ankle and had people queuing up to berate me for being so irresponsible. My baby was fine.

But the thought that someone out there probably believes I should be prosecuted for my behaviour is a pretty chilling thought.

I had this a few times with the caffeine. But on the other side of the coin, staff at Pret were always giving me free coffee and lunch as I think they felt sorry for me for being so enormous and miserable (had an 11lb baby in August).

A chef actually came out of the kitchen to ask if I would prefer my meat well done, which was slightly awkward! I told him I'd prefer it pink thanks. It is slightly bizarre not to be trusted by random people to not make sensible choices for yourself and your DC!

isabellerossignol In a similar vein, I follow a woman on facebook who is very into health and fitness and lifting weights etc. She recently had a baby and had to put up with a hell of a lot of deeply unpleasant comments from people who felt that she shouldn't be continuing to exercise throughout her pregnancy. I had to unfollow for a while because I couldn't stop myself from responding to these sanctimonious womb botherers.

I knew this thread reminded me of something!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrusion_(novel)

In this novel, most pregnant women take a pill that corrects genetic abnormalities. Pregnant women also have to wear a monitor ring that stops them drinking alcohol or being exposed to cigarette smoke...

... the current government in the novel is a paternalist - woke! - authoritarian Labour Party.
