"Mrs May has vowed to end the "postcode lottery" for victims and their children, creating a legal duty for councils to provide refuge."

"The Domestic Abuse Bill will also introduce the first ever statutory government definition of domestic abuse to specifically include economic abuse and controlling and manipulative non-physical abuse.

The legislation will establish a new Domestic Abuse Commissioner and prohibit the cross-examination of victims by their abusers in family courts."

This is good news at least.

It's all talk. Where's the money coming from?

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 13/05/2019 11:57

I don't know, it just says "Mrs May's new plans are backed by funding."

This is good news. I used to be a leftie, but since Labour now allows TAs to attack women and women's rights, and allows misogynistic trans people who were born male to take reserved places fought for by women, I wouldn't ever vote Labour again. The Tory government is doing more for women with legislation like this, and those are words I thought I would never ever write. I think the Domestic Abuse Bill is a very good thing and I am glad that the Theresa May has made it a priority

Good news aa it means they recognise there is a problem and hopefully it will happen but who knows.

Considering the Tories took money away and said local government had to find the money, I’d like to see how this is going to work in practice.

LangCleg · 13/05/2019 12:37

I'll wait for the funding announcement. Because without extra money, and given the cuts councils have already been forced to make, it can only come from another, equally vulnerable, group.

This is a police matter.

Friend has an injunction out on her ex.

It isn’t worth the paper it is written on.

Her ex breaks it regularly. The police are useless.

She has witnesses and the police still took 8 weeks to take her statement after the latest incident.
She had to badger them to take her statement because they were reluctant to take one.
They don’t feel it is appropriate to pursue this.

TM can put all sorts of committees in place but if the police don’t follow the law then it is a huge waste of money.
