T]]he government has passed a law to introduce "opt-out" for organ donation. The government thinks the law should only apply to routine transplants such as heart, liver or kidney and it should not apply to "novel or rare" transplants. If you are concerned about, for instance, reproductive organs or indeed other human parts being transplanted here is your chance to have a say.

Have you seen foetus is on the list for 'organ' donation?! Wtf!

On the novel to rare list, but who's the decision maker there?

TitianaTitsling · 12/05/2019 20:58

Yes I know that they're saying this is excluded, but if we start seeing a foetus as an organ, how long before it could at some point be deemed ok?

FannyCann · 12/05/2019 20:59

Thanks Michelle - I thought the consultation was in the link.

Yes, Titiana I'm not sure how they propose to transplant placenta, umbilical cord and embryo.
But I definitely wouldn't give them the chance.
Reproductive organs are not up for grabs from my family.

Ditto Fanny

I saw this on another thread a while ago and have since shared it and opted out of the current scheme which is a bit sad as I have been a life long listed donor.

You can nominate someone as your decision maker and make your wishes known to them, you just need to fill in the form.

My reproductive system is not up for grabs so will have to reassess the details when the laws comes into practice next year.

They wouldn't. They would be used for research/ testing.

iVampire · 12/05/2019 21:14

They don’t transplant as whole organs. They do process them for stem cells for use in eg cancer treatments.

A bit of a thread on this from last month

Done :-) thanks for this

There is a box at the end for further thoughts, I wrote that
there should be an option to direct that if a woman’s womb is used for transplantation, that it can only be transplanted into another biological female. I would consent to my womb being used to transplant for another woman, but would withhold consent if it might be used to transplant into a biological male.

”I'm not sure how they propose to transplant placenta, umbilical cord and embryo”

Presumably, in the first instance, inside the uterus? Presumably if embryos can be frozen for IVF, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine one surviving transplantation. And in the future, it may prove possible to do so at a more advanced stage.

This ideology in time may have some very serious consequences.

Exceedingly rich, white men (and women) who invest in biomedical companies are funding myriad transgender organizations whose agenda will make them gobs of money.

The interesting one in this case is transgender billionaire Martine Rothblatt and the fact that

"Transgenderism sits square in the middle of the medical industrial complex, which is by some estimates even bigger than the military industrial complex."

Martine Rothblatt is a transhumanist who believes that

"changing our bodies by removing healthy tissue and organs and ingesting cross-sex hormones over the course of a lifetime can be likened to wearing make-up, dying our hair, or getting a tattoo. If we are all transhuman, expressing that could be a never-ending saga of body-related consumerism."

This is an interview with Rothblatt in 2018

For those that are interested, this is a BBC documentary on transhumanism from 2015 - poor quality and distressing in parts, particularly for animal lovers like me.
