This is going to be depressing.

Two male officers investigating a rape deciding that they discovered "holes" in the victim's story.

Erythronium · 06/05/2019 22:40

This is how police officers get admissions of "false reports" from victims. Pressuring the victim through lies into making false confessions. Scumbags.

OP posts:
PickleC · 06/05/2019 22:42

And these are the officers with several decades of experience? Lying to her. Interviewing her with leading questions. In a locked basement mirroring where she was assaulted. Unbelievable and depressing. Why would anyone want to come forward?

nobodyputsbabyinthecornor · 06/05/2019 22:43

I'm watching it in total shock . The office is an absolute arsehole , abusing his position of power . Is it any wonder rape victims are reluctant to report it to the police

Starlight456 · 06/05/2019 22:44

Watching

Erythronium · 06/05/2019 22:45

He just invented a story and then got her to agree to all of it. His "truth", not hers.

Total misogynist. Maybe no stranger to to unacceptable behaviour himself.

Erythronium · 06/05/2019 22:47

I bet he watches a lot of porn.

OP posts:
Erythronium · 06/05/2019 22:55

Oh my god, they're calling the rapists victims. No.

OP posts:
PickleC · 06/05/2019 23:00

He never interviewed the two accused men???? What the holy f? It really feels like he investigated and lied until he managed to back her into saying it was untrue. Oh but he 'understands' why the accused wouldn't want to be interviewed.

Erythronium · 06/05/2019 23:06

Completely nonplussed at the idea he might interview two men accused of rape. Not nonplussed at all about travelling two hours to see a victim then lying through his teeth to her in order to get a "confession" out of her.

One of the "women lie about rape" crew managed to get a job in the Sexual Offences Investigation Unit and act out his hatred there. Not unlike the KKK members who become police officers so they can shoot black people.

He thinks reporting rape is a worse crime than raping someone.

This copper Shock is he still in the job?

He seems to think that if a woman says yes to one man it means yes to all men.

HelenaDove · 06/05/2019 23:46

Christ this poor young woman Sad

Orchidoptic · 07/05/2019 07:16

The cup of tea analogy is a lie. The police just don’t think like that.

hoodathunkit · 07/05/2019 13:25

Absolutely horrific viewing on a subject I am extremely familiar with, namely false testimony / false memories as a result of the abuse of a position of authority.

What made this different to the situations with which I am depressingly familiar is that the victim in this situation was falsely accused of false allegations rather than falsely accused of incest / historic sexual abuse / satanic ritual abuse.

The investigating cop seemed so impressive initially but by the end of the programme I had reached the conclusion that he should be in jail.

That poor young woman.

Erythronium · 07/05/2019 16:31

One of the most chilling aspects of this is the message that the court case and conviction sends to rapists, that their victim won't be believed and they'll be supported in the damage and harm they do to her. The police will even help the rapist continuing to persecute her for daring to complain. Rapists know that they'll get away with their crimes, there's absolutely nothing to stop them, they can call on every misogynistic myth to back them up and they will receive huge amounts of support for it up to and including from the people who are supposed to protect women and girls from rapists.

The victim here said that she didn't fight back because she didn't want to die. If she was making it up, how did she know that fear of death is a common thing that victims report? It's not well known but it is incredibly consistent with being a victim, yet the police officer totally ignored it. I hope being given the chance to take part in this programme and tell her side has given her some comfort. She deserves it.

this man who is denying her reality at every turn

Depressingly familiar to us all, I’m sure.

My friends 17 year old daughter was raped while extremely drunk, public witness. The police seoerated her from her mother and early on said, ‘ you’re very calm for someone who was supposedly raped’... she said from that point on she didn’t want to pursue it, and later withdrew her report.

I can’t believe that poor woman is in prison. I’ve only read that review, I cannot bear to watch.

Starlight456 · 07/05/2019 17:27

I watched it all. There was a thread on here the other day about people had a duty to report. This explains perfectly why people don’t

Ereshkigal · 07/05/2019 19:21

It sounds fucking awful. Why is it open season for officially endorsed misogyny right now?

Imnobody4 · 07/05/2019 20:51

Even worse than the Roger Graef documentary 30 years ago. I feel so sorry for her. I can't understand how all progress is disappearing in front of my eyes.

HelenaDove · 08/05/2019 02:28

According to Whats On TV next weeks edition is about a cheerleader who claimed (the way they are wording it) she was the victim of an assault by members of a uni football team.

InionEile · 08/05/2019 04:35

Rape culture in action by the sounds of it. 'You know she really wanted it, just felt bad about it the next day.'

Makes me sick. I'm not in the UK so can't watch on Channel 4 but I don't know if I could stomach it anyway. The tone of the Guardian review is highly critical but what was the tone of the documentary? Was it 'who knows what really happened, make up your own minds' or 'this police officer is a piece of shit misogynist and a bully, the process to prosecute rape is a disgrace'. I hope it was the latter.

Erythronium · 08/05/2019 12:42

It was the latter luckily, Inion. I'd be picketing Channel 4 otherwise.

There was also a recent Louis Theroux documentary about who do we believe in a rape case "The Night in Question". It was about a rape at Yale and looked like it was set up to be the usual MRA BS about poor menz being accused by evil lying women, but he exposed the psychopathic rapist and took him to pieces with his Louis Theroux downbeat style. It was actually very powerful to watch, because it made clear the manipulations and lies a rapist tells after the fact to get onlookers onside. Exposing misogyny makes for good TV but still isn't getting justice for victims though.

OP posts:
DryHeave · 08/05/2019 19:55

The detective seems to think he’s a nice guy who isn’t coercive, manipulative and damaging to women. No wonder his sympathies lie where they do...
