Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

So I think I made a block list!

I'm a full time lurker on the feminism boards, and I often see references to quite active posters being on block lists on twitter.
I used to do twitter a while back, haven't been on for ages but decided to follow some links and references on here last night, got stuck in a rabbit hole and liked a few posts, maybe 1 or 2 retweet's.
Now any tweet that appears to be from a TRA is hidden and it says I'm blocked. Surely they aren't that quick to react to a few likes?

They are pretty quick with the terf blocking. Before my permanent suspension half the comments on threads were not visible as they were blocked. Rainbow Radicals are worth following as they list people worth blocking if you are GC - profiles that report GC accounts like tunnel rat. Bizarrely now my account is suspended I can view profiles that had banned me.

BertyFlanter · 01/05/2019 20:28

Thanks for the tip, I meant to ask in my OP for any good accounts to follow 🤦🏻‍♀️

That's so funny that you can see them now. That's surely a massive flaw in their systems 🤣

FermatsTheorem · 01/05/2019 20:36

Easy enough to see tweets - just log out of twitter, search for the account you want to look at and view through a browser.

Whether it's worth the effort given that all you will see is a shit shower of misogyny is another matter.

BertyFlanter · 01/05/2019 20:58

Ah, yeah I have an old business page I can easily switch to view. Good idea 🙂

I genuinely don’t understand the point of mass blocking.
I’m blocked by Rachel McKinnon, I can only think it’s because I’ve liked tweets by Julie Bindel as I haven’t ever tweeted at all.
Way to go Rach! Awesome way to win me over and have an open discussion.

nettie434 · 01/05/2019 21:28

For a long time I was only 'hand' blocked by people with very few followers who monitored anyone retweeting, liking or replying to tweets from people like Glinner. In the last few weeks I have been blocked by so many people (despite never interacting with any of them in any way) so I think terf blocker has been revved up a bit.

Today I discovered that somebody I sent some money to on one of those 'Buy .... a coffee' (more coy than go fund me) apps for something she tweeted is now identifying as very TRA and has blocked me. There's gratitude for you Grin.

Cheekyfeckery · 01/05/2019 21:30

Weird isn’t it? If you don’t follow a cross-section of people it becomes an echo chamber. (Which of course is exactly what it is). It’s extremely rare that I tweet, I have very few followers, and mainly ‘like’ Thoughts of a Dog.

AH is the only person I have blocked. But he blocked me first. Then unblocked me. Why, I have no idea.

Genderfreelass · 01/05/2019 21:35

McK has blocked over 75k people 😂😂😂 I'm still technically logged in but can only view, my followers/following are 0 but I can now see McK tweets even so must be some glitch. Although now I'm suspended makes no dif if I'm logged in or not really.

Cuntysnark · 01/05/2019 21:39

Genderfreelass I googled rainbow radicals but couldn’t find them. Lots of options but none looked quite right. Could you dm me the right link please?

Genderfreelass · 01/05/2019 21:43

R0wantrees · 01/05/2019 22:10

I believe some mass 'terf' block lists have algorithm option which people can sign up to so once you follow a certain number of people already on the list you are also blocked.

Also once someone adds a twitter account to a mass block list, it is then blocked by everyone else who has signed up to it.

BertyFlanter · 01/05/2019 22:12

Ah, I did follow quite a few accounts. It's crazy! Blocking for simply following and a few likes shows an incredible amount of insecurity and also makes me wonder what they are trying to hide.

OP posts:
ZebrasAreBras · 01/05/2019 23:25

I think I probably spend more time on Twitter logged out than logged in now Grin

I was added to Terfblocker ages ago, simply for following gender critical accounts - I think it was Miranda Yardley before she was banned.

I was blocked by Harrop for tweeting something about being Genderfree.

I was blocked by India Willoughby for tweeting in defence of Mumsnet when India went off on one about us.

I have never been reported, or tweeted anything remotely abusive on twitter - but I'm blocked by so many people. My tweets must touch a nerve Grin

Genderfreelass · 02/05/2019 08:37

A lot of them cant cope with any kind of negative comment, they are right and how dare anyone not see their superiority and acknowledge it. Therefore even the liking of a "negative" comment is enough to block. Posts don't need to be abusive to get reported, biology, refusal to believe TWAW, thinking that deception is wrong... its only once my posts got shared more by other GC people that I got targetted by TRA and reported. I also got targetted more when I started tagging Joan McAlpine on posts I thought she should see.

littlbrowndog · 02/05/2019 08:52

Am blocked by many. And I don’t tweet but follow

That makes me bad fecker so had to be blocked 😉😉

R0wantrees · 02/05/2019 11:01

I was blocked by India Willoughby for tweeting in defence of Mumsnet when India went off on one about us.

April 2018 Pink News article by India Willoughby
'India Willoughby: Britain’s rampant transphobia has me worried for my life'
(extract)

"We’re heading for a modern day Stonewall riot – unless the government and media clamp down on what has become rampant transphobia.

Transgender people are being bullied and hounded like never before – and we need to be very careful about where all this unfettered hate dressed up as “free speech” is going.

The Sunday Times, Daily Mail and – wait for it – Mumsnet – are hounding trans women in the same way Hitler went about stigmatising Jewish people.

Seriously. That’s no exaggeration.

The tabloids are no surprise, but Mumsnet?

Yeah, what is supposed to be a family-friendly parenting site has it’s claws out for the trans community.

And it all feels very orchestrated." (continues)

I defy anyone to visit Mumsnet right now, look up transgender, and tell me that the vicious and mocking threads about trans people would be allowed about any other demographic. It’s the stuff of pitchforks and lanterns. The same rhetoric about race, religion on sexuality would lead to prosecutions and official condemnation.

Mumsnet CEO Justine Roberts squeals that trans people highlighting the content – including threads which out trans people – to some of the site’s main advertisers is out of order. She describes it as an attack on free speech. This might be a shock to Justine, but trans people have free speech, too.

There’s even a debate about introducing a new trans Section 28, clamping down on educating the public about what transgender is.

Justine is adamant there’s nothing transphobic on Mumsnet. Only reasoned debate. She wants transgender visitors to Mumsnet to be “happy and supported.” It feels reminiscent of when Cruella de Vil opens a home for stray dogs in 101 Dalmatians." (continues)

DryHeave · 02/05/2019 18:14

I’ve never tweeted, liked or retweeted anything related to trans issues. I follow a range of people - including feminists. This was enough to get me on some block list. Insane.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 02/05/2019 21:33

I am on McKinnon. Despite me currently having no tweets and no likes. I only follow 3 people too so far as its a brand new account due to unacceptable targetting levels on my old one (which was also extremely mild and had never had a warning or anything either so quite why so much ire was directed at me I don't know, I clearly am not a TRA fave but experienced endless threats)

I guess it might be because I currently follow Martina and Sharon Davies? Other follow I don't think has ever said anything about gender fullstop. But surely, they cannot block all who follow huge sports stars? Unless its blocking anyone who follows more than one 'confirmed terf' or something.

nettie434 · 02/05/2019 21:45

It could pick up people following Sharron & Martina (Paula & Dame Kelly) but no other sports stars perhaps TheGoal? Glinner is another one they look for.

BertyFlanter · 03/05/2019 07:55

Sharon, Martina and Glinner were ones I followed. Clears that mystery up!

R0wantrees

I love how you so often pick up on a comment and then provide the background story on it. For all of us who don't get round to following all that's going on, your contributions are so valuable. Your posts are my favourite 'go to' resource for letter writing on gc issues to my council, acas etc.

Thankyou! Flowers

R0wantrees · 03/05/2019 11:56

barelove Thank you. I
It took me a long time to understand some of the bigger picture & I learned so much from the wisdom on this board.
I was and am in an unusual position of having more time available than most.
Hopefully the links help those who might want to understand some of the context better & those who don't can skim over! Smile

Re the article by India Willoughby above, this was posted at the time last year when Justine Roberts went public about the pressures being put on Mumsnet by some TRAs. She also asserted MN determination to resist the pressures & enable civilised discussion about important issues:

15/4/ 2018 Times:
'Mumsnet founder Justine Roberts: Transgender activists try to curb free speech on site'

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/mumsnet-founder-justine-roberts-transgender-activists-try-to-curb-free-speech-on-site-z3sr3nf6q?shareToken=b2eb62822dd26aecc0f88653978ed23a

This was the response by many members of Mumsnet in support of the position taken:

16/4/2018 Justine Roberts & India Willoughby were interviewed by Julia Hartley-Brewer about transactivists targetting Mumsnet:

& then India Willoughby wrote the Pink News article (above), 24/4/2018
'India Willoughby: Britain’s rampant transphobia has me worried for my life'

barelove · 03/05/2019 12:30

Only made aware of Mumsnet's existence late last year. Peaked me in about two hours.

It's been a harsh awakening after years of blissful ignorance and I've got a lot of catching up to do. Thanks for the extra info. Another late night for me tonight! Grin
