Extraordinary. Buck reacts to someone saying the word transexual hurts people's identities:

I feel a bit mumsy-worried when a transitioned person starts to take on GC arguments - it must be quite emotionally stressful, when the logic part of your brain says one thing, but the dysphoric part has dictated your life story so far

I resemble this remark. It's one of the reasons I take my hat off to Miranda, who has voluntarily let go of all the language which previously signalled that Miranda wanted to be perceived as female. It's the right thing to do, but by god it can't have been easy.

I am very reassured by Buck's uncompromising "FUCK YOU" responses, though. (I resemble that remark, too!)

It's also another signal that if you are female-bodied, it doesn't matter how far you go down this route, there is nothing that will protect you from all the "bigot", "evil cunt", "TERF", etc, etc, stuff. As well as being trans, and a poster child for every TRA who posts Buck's picture with a "DO YOU WANT BUCK PEEING IN THE LADIES? HUH? HUH? GOTCHA!" message, Buck is also an adult film star. There is nobody female who has distanced themselves further from "SWERF" and "TERF" than Buck, for the best part of thirty years.

Except there is Buck, physically-transitioned Buck, trans trailblazer Buck, getting called "bigot", "TERF" and "transphobe" by a bunch of blue-haired babies.

Buck has been posting or retweeting lots about detransitioners lately too, and saying this needs to be talked about more/defending them against the aggressive TRAs! Go Buck!

Buck has also been posting about a shelter for homeless and ex-prisoner nb/trans people thatthey are raising money for. This is Buck doing what we've always wished trans people would do: put their time, money and energy into creating trans-specific services, rather than simply stealing women's services and excluding women from those services.

I'm genuinely impressed.

Buck - the ‘terves and swerves’ of Mumsnet are here with Gin if you need us!

I’ve always said I would be happy to join the fight for trans rights if trans activists were asking for solidarity in matters of inequality that have a material basis - wtf is going on with trans people and HIV rates in the US (especially black transwomen) for example? And if Transmen are being missed off of U.K. cervical cancer screening, for example, why aren’t we looking for ways to record sex and gender identity as seperate categories, so that transmen get a cervical screening letter addressed to ‘Mr’ AND an opportunity to make an appointment with a staff member with extra trans sensitivity training? Hell, big cities could probably offer occasional days where all patients attending are trans or NB identified people .
What about elderly transpeople with dementia, who are struggling with their modified bodies and minds that don’t remember why they had those surgeries?

Creating a legal fiction and overwriting birth certificates is bad for sex based rights, and bad for the actual health and well being of transpeople.
One of the recent school shooters in Colorado is a 16 year old FtM person - transgender Redditors are saying ‘this makes us look bad’ and ‘the sheriff has misgendered him, this is unacceptable’. Yet terfy ol’ me over here is worried about where this female bodied, 16 year old person is being held, because insisting on calling this mentally unhealthy vulnerable young person ‘him’ has an end point of putting them in a male jail/prison/secure psychiatric facility - why are pronouns are higher priority than physical safety and minimising the risk of sexual assault?

So yes, well done to Buck for supporting and fundraising for a trans specific shelter - addressing a material need in the trans population without overriding the rights of women.
This isn’t ‘segregation’, it’s thoughtful, tailored services for different groups of vulnerable people.

So much this. In fact, before I was repeatedly called terrible things by Anti-woman transactivists and led down the rabbit hole by their behaviour to see the awful, inexcusable things they endorse, I was very much in the 'Of course I am an ally of trans people and they should have all the basic rights everyone else enjoys'.

That is still my position, but the AWAs weren't asking for that, they were asking to demolish women's rights and expecting us to roll over and let them.

If someone were to actually do what Buck is doing, I would have been on board from the get go.

Genderfreelass · 10/05/2019 13:01

Well done Buck for championing trans services rather than trying to take away women's services. It is surely so much more appropriate as staff can be trained specifically in dealing with trans people and there needs.
