The rights of women are now 'controversial' or a 'disruption'. The redefining of male and female is not something that should be allowed to interrupt a conference.

Anyone still hanging onto a forlorn hope that this is an honest and benign agenda?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/04/2019 11:11

Nah, I think they've done it on purpose to draw attention to the issue and not to disrupt Nickla's stuff.

I think that article is spin.

This is a massive issue and I suspect there are widespread grumblings in many SNP members and cross party MSPs. They are just too scared to say it.

AnyOldPrion · 25/04/2019 11:49

”Deciding to do this when there is no urgency a few days before conference,”

Mhairi Hunter has been vocally attacking Joan McAlpine, et al. She is an active TRA on Twitter. And the idea that this matter is not urgent is patently false. For many, many women, it is of the utmost urgency, given the changes to policy in Glasgow and the potential for GRA discussions at conference. Why would they NOT raise it now. It needs to be addressed.

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 25/04/2019 11:54

Isn’t the whole point of the conference to raise the issues of the day? You can’t write off an issue as not important because you disagree with it. Load of bloody nonsense! Makes me cross!

ChickenonaMug · 25/04/2019 12:00

This issue often seems to be downplayed by politicians as something that just a few women have some 'misguided' concerns about.

However now it seems that the expressed concerns of just 15 SNP politicians, who wish to discuss the issues in good faith and without abuse, are so significant that they can disrupt an entire political party conference.

theOtherPamAyres · 25/04/2019 12:08

The people trying to disrupt the SNP conference are the ones behind the 'leaking' of private messages between female MSPs.

They started the bandwagon rolling.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/04/2019 12:17

the ones behind the 'leaking' of private messages between female MSPs

What worries me is how long until they start "leaking" emails from concerned constituents that they disagree with...

S1naidSucks · 25/04/2019 12:30

What a fantastic and brave group of people, putting their name to that debate. That is how politicians/councillors should be fighting for women, not trying to add woMEN to the group called females. Hunter should be ashamed of her own behaviour.

GeordieGenes · 25/04/2019 12:37

Well if they had just let us discuss this when we first asked, it never would have got to this stage. This snowball is a result of previous inaction.

Lichtie · 25/04/2019 12:44

The SNP have one goal, and it's not women's rights.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 27/04/2019 09:47

That is true, Lichtie.

I'm no nationalist. Not at all.

But, I'm considering voting for them - if they stand up for women then they can have my vote.

Never thought I'd say that.

GeordieGenes · 27/04/2019 13:11

I’m in England, but illl also find a way to vote for them if they stand up for women!
