LOCAL ELECTIONS ARE COMING!

Do you want our local politicians to take women's rights seriously? They have a lot of say over maintaining single sex services for women and girls.

Please post this slogan and hashtag on their Facebook pages, their Twitter timelines, email them, text them.

WOMEN'S VOTES MATTER: PROTECT OUR SEX BASED RIGHTS

#SexNotGender

Even better send them a postcard. You can even send one without leaving the house:
www.mypostcard.com/en/
(Other apps and websites are available)

The candidates and their contact details should be listed on your council website.

If you have a little more time, you could ask them some questions, via Facebook, Twitter, email or post. Here are some examples:

ASK THEM:The EQA needs to be enforced in respect of sex segregated services, it should be implemented as written. (For example, in school toilets, sports centre changing rooms, prisons, hospitals). Are you willing to stand up for women and girls on this issue?

ASK THEM: Do you (and your party) understand that sex is binary? How can you legislate for something as fluid/ephemeral as 'gender identity'? Is that a term that should have any place in law/policy (For example, incorrect Council websites).

ASK THEM: Are you aware of the Stonewall 'trans' umbrella? And that they are lobbying for the removal of sex-based rights? They are having a massive influence on governmental, council, and private company policies.

ASK THEM: Should people with a sexual paraphilia (e.g. autogynephiliacs) be receiving legal rights to enter sex segregated spaces? How does that protect the dignity, privacy, and safety of women?

We will be very interested to hear their responses! Please share them on the ReSisters Facebook page or Twitter with these hashtags:

#SexNotGender
#ItsNotJustAboutTheBins!

Great idea but I feel that the questions are a bit complicated and wordy.

What about things like ....

What will you do to improve the way the council consults women about council policies that affect them?

Will you oppose the move towards mixed sex toilets and changing rooms in council properties and services?

Will you commit to reviewing those council policies that have removed 'sex' as a protected characteristic and replaced it with 'gender'?

And so on.

Here's my take on the ReSisters United UK & Ireland @ReSistersU questions - anyone who turns up canvassing at my door for the local elections will get asked these!:

The Equality Act of 2010 allows for sex segregated services. Does your party support separate facilities for women and girls?

[eg school toilets, sports centre changing rooms, prisons, hospitals, rape crisis centres, sports, women’s shortlists etc]

Does your party believe that men with a sexual kink ie autogynephilia should get the legal right to enter our sex segregated spaces?

If yes - so how exactly does that protect the dignity, privacy, and safety of women and girls?

Stonewall are having a massive influence on governmental, council, and private company policies.

Did you know Stonewall are lobbying for the removal of these sex-based rights?

What exactly is your party’s relationship with Stonewall?

Nothing about us without us - so if your party is elected, how do you plan to include women and girls in decisions that affect us?

This is a massive voting issue for women and our supporters.

Is your party willing to stand up for women and girls' rights? Or not?

Hey the more questions the better, these are (as it says) examples, that people may want to copy and paste, that's all. I speak to many women who just don't know where to start so this is just a way for them to perhaps do something rather than nothing.

Thing is, if you ask questions that are obviously pro women, you will get suitably pro women answers back. They'll agree with whatever you say to get a vote.

theOtherPamAyres · 25/04/2019 12:30

They'll agree with whatever you say to get a vote

Spot on. That's why I try to avoid questions like 'do you believe, do you think, do you agree, do you know' etc

A sitting councillor seeking re-election needs to be put on the spot, as if they themselves were responsible for all the councils' actions and policies.
Why did you remove the sex protected characteristic and replace it with gender? Isn't it your public sector duty to monitor 'sex'?

Why do you have a project to tackle 'period poverty' in schools while at the same time removing girls' rights to privacy and dignity in mixed-sex toilets?

A would-be councillor has be asked what they intend to do
-about consulting women
-about resisting cuts to women's services and facilities on the grounds that they don't include men

Question their ACTIONS as councillors.
Pin them down to taking action, if they want to be elected.

Don't give them a chance to bullshit by general questions about hypothetical stuff.
