No 'pregnant people', 'people who breastfeed' or 'chestfeeders'.

🤰🤱
Even emojis know that only involves bloody women!

Be careful not to misgender the emojis Wink

Wonder, i can only apologise to the emojis for the literal violence and triggering, I've caused. 😊

there's been a little outbreak of sanity at the guardian recently. they used all the right words in that article

the subject of the article was sad though, it would be a shame if the NCT stopped advocating for breast feeding

Ameanstreakamilewide · 21/04/2019 09:26

That's what made it stand out for me, i think - the Guardian of all (woke) things.

And i agree with you about the breastfeeding angle though.

Wow. That’s actually a good article.

Another charity falling into the 'business model'. Awaits complaints of bullying etc
Mr Wilkie is, as was noted upon his appointment, a career charity executive, who appears to bring no specialist childbirth knowledge, training or experience, beyond his fathering of three small children, to a body once proudly associated with expertise in parturition. And, given the under-representation of women at the top of big charities, there was always going to be some regret that the NCT, an influential, women-founded and women-oriented charity should, for the first time in its history, choose to imitate the conventional pattern: a dominant male commanding a predominantly female staff.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 19:26

It’s very disappointing to hear NCT has moved on from their focus of birth and breastfeeding. And very telling that one of the first things they produced after Nick Wilkie took over was a leaflet on PND in men.

The former president was on R4 today and talked about a culture of fear and bullying at NCT that goes right to the top.

Erythronium · 22/04/2019 21:01

Two things that might be related:

"It appointed its first male chief executive, Nick Wilkie, in 2015"

"Since 2016, the charity has seen a 55% decrease in its membership from 110,000 to 50,000."

Wonder how the journalist managed to get past the trans censors.

2BoysandaCairn · 22/04/2019 21:51

Sorry, I am a dad of 2 teenage boys, who wife couldn't breast feed due to never producing milk.
But NCT is only used my middle class parents. We are working class and know no one who touched NCT. it costs a fortune and everyone used free NHS natal classes groups. Plus free community toddler groups.
Maybe NCT under any leader male or female, might like to spread its appeal.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 22:28

They do heavily discounted course and membership fees for people on low incomes and the baby/toddler groups and helplines are free to all.

Biggest change the current CEO made was that you have to opt in to membership when booking courses now and previously you had to opt out. That accounts for the massive drop in numbers.
