blogs.gov.scot/fairer-scotland/2019/04/18/transgender-rights-and-equality/

the problem we face is not one of trans women wanting to feel safe and accepted – it is one of how we protect and safeguard women against potentially abusive men.

I can’t see a thread on this. The statement also seems to have been supported by Nicola Sturgeon.

It appears carefully worded, but perhaps a crack in the ice?

“just as the First Minister has herself said in the past, I personally don’t feel conflict between my support for trans rights and my support for women’s rights.”

She’s full of crap.

And it isn’t just about violent men - what about my own personal dignity? I don’t want to receive inimate care from a women HCP with a penis. If I’m unlucky enough to get sent to prison I don’t want to be locked up with women with penises. When I go to the gym I don’t want to get undressed in front of a woman with a penis. There are numerous other examples that have been REPEATEDLY explained.

Frankly the SNP have an addiction to be being woke. They thought this would be an easy win. They can fuck off.

Apologies, I didn't realise there was an existing thread (or more to this). Note to self there is always more to it.

" we would simply be catching up with changes that many other countries, including Ireland, have already made."

Ireland has retained all single sex spaces and services; have a listen [from 18 minutes in]

So, I wrote to SA Somerville in response to this blog. Signed, as usual, with my first initial and surname, didn't really give it a thought.

Got a response from the Govt to say they will respond.

Misgendered me. Twice. 'Mr Scrimshaw', as despite all this gender sensitive showboating, the default is apparently male.

Shall I 'It's MA'AM' them? :)

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/04/2019 18:08

'Mr Scrimshaw', as despite all this gender sensitive showboating, the default is apparently male.

Bloody hell, it's barely skin deep if that, isn't it? Showboating is the right word, they don't believe in or even have a basic understanding of what they're talking about! Shock

And making it clear trans privilege is not for women.

youllhavehadyourtea · 25/04/2019 18:17

Gawd yes, Ma'am them!

And yes it's showboating - it was the same all the way through First Ministers Questions today about Monica Lennons San Pro Bill. No mention of women. Only 'people' and 'anyone'.

They haven't got a friggin clue what they're doing.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 26/04/2019 07:33

It isn't just that men will abuse it, it's my right to undress without any man present, including men who think they are women. Sincerity of belief doesn't make it true.

LizzieSiddal · 26/04/2019 08:52

Ireland has retained all single sex spaces and services;

So why is anyone in the UK trying to get rid of ours?

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 26/04/2019 16:58

“just as the First Minister has herself said in the past, I personally don’t feel conflict between my support for trans rights and my support for women’s rights.”

Anyone who says this, is either monumentally dim or purposely lying.

Of course there doesn't have to be a conflict, but the 'trans rights' being asked for is basically..losing womens rights alltogether. Its possible to support both. For example I do not think transpeople should be discriminated against when applying for jobs (I mean in a 'no not you as you are trans' way though, not..saying transwomen should be able to single sex roles for women.)

The fear is that some men will use trans equality as a Trojan horse to access women and do us harm.

Its not just that, but she knows that already.

And I understand that. But it means the problem we face is not one of trans women wanting to feel safe and accepted – it is one of how we protect and safeguard women against potentially abusive men. That’s not a new problem in Scottish or global society – nor is it one created by trans women.

We cannot safeguard women against abusive men, however the likes of single sex spaces exist to mitigate the risk somewhat, and pretending that they don;t is, again, daft. You cannot safeguard womens rights, while saying that men are women if they utter a couple of magic words.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 26/04/2019 16:59

Cit off half my sentence there somehow Hmm

Of course there doesn't have to be a conflict, but the 'trans rights' being asked for is basically..losing womens rights alltogether. Its possible to support both. For example I do not think transpeople should be discriminated against when applying for jobs (I mean in a 'no not you as you are trans' way though, not..saying transwomen should be able to single sex roles for women.) but I think women deserve the right to women only areas in certain parts of life.

So yeah, you can support both. BUT you cannot support both when you agree with TRA demands, as TRA demands are ignoring womens needs completely.
