Just wanted to get people's views on this party? They have a candidate for the local elections standing in my ward and I liked the sound of them.

So, I emailed the local party yesterday to ask how they would define a woman. I got this reply:

In answer to your question, the statement below is from our policy document:

WE have brought together the experiences and ideas of people of all genders from across the country – including those doubly or trebly disadvantaged by their gender and other factors such as ethnicity, age, disability, family background, sexuality or religion. We also recognise that the binary words “woman” and “man” do not reflect the gender experience of everyone in our country, and support the right of all to define their sex or gender or to reject gendered divisions as they choose

If you click on the link below, it will take you to the full document which explains our policies and approach to politics

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

I'm not sure what to make of this. The phrase 'support the right of all to define their sex or gender or to reject gendered divisions' - I think I would agree with this if they had missed out the word 'sex'.

(I've name changed for this by the way because I don't think they have candidates in many areas and don't want to out myself)

Nice one Always. I'd certainly like to self-identify as a whippet-owner. All the class cred without having to pick up poo.

I resigned from the party this month after realising their stance. I should've done a bit more research but assumed that it was sex-based rather than gender. Shame, as I don't much want to vote for anyone else either and they field candidates in my area of Manchester Sad

When the WEP said that it would do politics differently, they meant that we needed to be kind, compassionate and inclusive of any Tom, Dick and AGP.

They meant that we needed to share space with the fragrant, fragile but stockily built battleships who traipsed into the Ladies without so much as 'by your leave'.

WEP may still have its backers but it lost women when it handed power over to non-women.

Which gives the rather unfortunate acronym AGP.

Priceless.

It's just had a new leader elected, hasn't it? Mandu Reid, IIRC. I was hoping she'd get a handle on things.

Alas.

oh no, this is really disappointing.

I was wondering about them a while ago as I couldn't find anything definitive. Guess that's that then.
