So nice to see in another forum. The comments are well worth reading too.

Does anyone find it funny that with all the Brexit and trans bollocks they haven't the time or energy to get incensed about Trump? I keep thinking, "Oh he'll be gone soon" - I can't do that with Brexit or the trans issue.

aprarl · 17/04/2019 13:30

I think "trap" is about passing well enough to purposefully trick people (mainly men tricking men).

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 17/04/2019 13:32

What does trap mean?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/04/2019 13:33

Ooh! Is it? Well, that's another thing that never bloody happens.... Smile

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/04/2019 13:46

"trap"?

They believe they pass, don't they? Its amazing. I have millennia of programming to determine sex and risk of strangers.

Of course I can tell.

Maybe someone who's Asian with fine bone structure and a performer in the ladyboys, maybe they'd pass.

But, Betty/Barry from Kent? Sorry, mate. No. See you a mile off.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 17/04/2019 14:00

I love the Cis rant. Why on earth should I abide by ‘preferred pronouns’ if you won’t call me by my proper title of WOMAN.

PurpleCrowbar · 17/04/2019 14:08

That is a superlative rant.

Tl;dr? Not a chance. I relished every word. Seriously tempted to show it to my year 11 class as a bloody good example of polemical writing. Absolutely nailed it.

Antibles · 17/04/2019 14:16

Great rant.

littl your autocorrect has me in stitches Grin

tobee · 17/04/2019 15:02

It would be great if this were more widely read.

This is the realisation that you can't "play nice" with narcissists. It's never enough. You're never good enough. That's the whole fucking point!

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/04/2019 15:22

Read every word. Well reasoned, well explained, and by a clearly nice, liberal, well intentioned person who has done their best to be understanding, supportive and inclusive. And realised they'd been suckered into a co dependent relationship with a bunch of abusive arses with a black pit of need that can never, never be filled, where their sole job was to be the scapegoat. Never right, always wrong, it's Cinderella syndrome. Run around hard enough trying to please your betters, trying to do right, trying to do enough, and maybe one day, just one day, we'll let you have a little bit of a reward.

Yeah women saw through that one over a century ago. This is why younger women need a community with older women who have done the domestic abuse relationships and have the t shirts, who know about narcissism, male violence, abusive personalities, about learning to have boundaries and enough self esteem and life experience to say back the hell off, you do not get to treat me this way. And no, I'm not interested in how my having boundaries makes you feel, that's your responsibility not mine.

Identity politics is academia approved ad hominem

Ain't that the truth!

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/04/2019 15:27

And definitely grateful for the clear separation of sex dysphoria and gender dysphoria. I agree. Every sympathy for anyone suffering any form of body dysphoria, anorexia included. Gender dysphoria - you're right, it doesn't exist. Because anyone of any sex can make choices of any colours, toys, hobbies, clothes, personal appearance, names etc they like, unless you're bent on stuffing people in stereotypical boxes and labelling them. And really, why would you want to do that?

cattycattycat · 17/04/2019 15:32

It would be great if this were more widely read.

I agree so shared it on Facebook...

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 17/04/2019 15:32

It's got more than 10,000 up arrows so far, 2300 comments, is on r/popular. I'd say that's doing pretty well in terms of reach!

It is also a very different forum to here or the mainstream press.

The atomisation of society into more narrowly defined groups, accelerated by social media, works very effectively at keeping girls and young women away from women with broader experience. While at the same time enables the JY types to find a home in these narrow groups.

CallMeWoman · 17/04/2019 15:38

Thanks for sharing, op. Grinning ear to ear.

PlasmaRain · 17/04/2019 15:46

AlwaysTawnyOwl '‘preferred pronouns"?

Come on now. Tsk tsk. Clearly you missed the comment where it was pointed out that 'preferred' is no longer, well, preferred - it's just 'my pronouns' now!

Do try and keep up, dear. Wink

FromDespairToHere · 17/04/2019 16:21

Brilliant piece. I've saved it to read the comments when I have time too.

LangCleg · 17/04/2019 16:38

So true. Single sex, multi generational spaces raise consciousness.

Which is exactly why they're being attacked.

Lamaha · 17/04/2019 17:04

One thing I've noticed: TRAs loathe older women. Because we see the bs at once and are not sentimental about their hurty feelz. Especially if we have raised children!

It's the young ones they go after: female uni students anxious to please, who hide their own insecurity about themselves behind a mask of brashness. We oldies have seen it all, been there, done that, came out the other side!

KatvonHostileExtremist · 17/04/2019 17:09

Ooooft that woman peaked so hard.

TRAs are obnoxious. And slowly but surely the scales are dropping from people's eyes.

Good to see all the rate ups.

pachyderm · 17/04/2019 17:33

Lamaha reminds me of a certain little king of the woke columnists wondering why young women journos agreed with him (the handmaids of the Grauniad) but the old bitter crones didn't - kind of provided the answer to his own question!

stillathing · 17/04/2019 17:36

Ahhhh what a great read! Not a trillion miles from lots of our experiences too I bet.

littl hope you're enjoying your randy sweaty Wednesday afternoon.

InionEile · 17/04/2019 17:48

Sounds to me like the TRA fad will go the way of gluten intolerance: very fashionable among the professionally neurotic and celebs for a few years but in another couple of years it will be passé.

I say that as a coeliac who had to put up with every neurotic fool on the street telling me they were ‘sensitive to gluten’ whole chowing down on some rye bread for a while there. Lots of restaurants jumped on the bandwagon, which was nice for me for a while to get broader choices of places to eat out but I notice a lot of places in my area are no longer advertising gluten-free on their menus and some people now roll their eyes at me when I say I can’t eat gluten, assuming I didn’t get the memo about that not being cool or interesting anymore. I think it’ll be the same with transgender people soon. There will still be genuine transgender people with real dysphoria who go through full transition and all the struggles that entails (‘truscum’ in the TRA parlance) but the blue-haired, anime obsessed types and the middle-aged men who like wearing flowery blouses and high heels will have moved on to something else.

Well, at least I hope so...

NoSquirrels · 17/04/2019 18:39

if you ask me, there is nothing credible about gender dysphoria because THERE'S NO REASON THAT A PERSON CAN'T DEFY TRADITIONAL GENDER ROLES. That's not a mental illness, that's not a sign that a woman wants to be a man, that's not even remotely remarkable or special or rare! That's called a FUCKING PERSONALITY!

Personality goes a long way, baby.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 17/04/2019 19:10

Oh my god, it’s like this person has read my mind or had a parallel life/experience. I thought of myself, proudly, as a liberal for so long. I had known a trans family friend since I was little and then had friends who were in the drag scene and trans later in life. None of them were like today’s activists, who I listened to and tried to please/be kind initially. But it is impossible and the demands just felt like more male coercive control and sometimes outright hatred of women! I loved this rant!
