Description
Merseyside Equality Consortium are happy to announce our first speaking event to address the increasing concerns of educational professionals in the Merseyside area in how best to support gender diverse children in their care.

Speakers include:

Stephanie Davies-Arai, founder of parent-led organisation Transgender Trend. She was shortlisted for the prestigious John Maddox Prize for Science (2018) which "recognises the work of individuals who promote sound science and evidence on a matter of public interest, facing difficulty or hostility in doing so."

Professer Michele Moore has published widely on education, childhood and family life, disability and inclusion. Her recent Womans Place UK presentation on children and self identity has become a YouTube sensation with more than 22k views.

Helen Watts has been involved in Guiding throughout her life, as a child and adult.

I'd go to that. And, I'd send the flyer round all the GP surgeries in the area to see if I could tempt them in too.

Best of luck with it.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 14/04/2019 10:55

That looks excellent.

BingBongSong · 14/04/2019 20:22

I wish I could go to this event - I already have a ticket to see Rose McGowan speak. Will it be videoed, does anyone know?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/04/2019 20:43

I really hope professionals do attend and not just GC feminists IYSWIM.

BingBongSong · 27/04/2019 08:18

Does anyone know how this event went? I saw something on Twitter suggesting that the venue cancelled, but it went ahead anyway?

howmanyleftfeet · 27/04/2019 11:22

Yes, it did! New venue organised last minute. Feminists are awesome, we get shit done! Grin

cwg1 · 27/04/2019 11:27

I'm so glad - I was thinking about it last night, but didn't see any updates - hope you all had a great time Flowers

BingBongSong · 27/04/2019 11:52

So glad it went ahead Flowers.

Does anyone know how this event went? I saw something on Twitter suggesting that the venue cancelled, but it went ahead anyway?

A couple of last minute TRA alarm calls to the Quaker meeting house, where the event was scheduled, resulted in cancellation. However, another venue was found, although it did mean it was an hour or so late in beginning. An informed and inspired event, with speeches flowed by a Q&A session.

The fact that TRAs find it so easy to get venues to cancel really does feel like we are ling in very strange times; a whole other alternative 'reality'. Have been reading some George Orwell essays this week - the resonances with what is going on are as clear as day. Transgenderism is an essentially insecure ideology based on some central myths. that is why everything has to be policed and micro-managed in this way. To avoid the inevitable collapse when the emperor's new clothes are revealed. Strange times we are living in. History repeats itself.

Really good. The atmosphere was brilliant. It's really energising to meet people in real life and hear people speak with such expertise.

There were people from all walks of life there.

The video is being edited down and they will make it available on YouTube.

Bob Withers was speaking insted of Stephanie Davies-Arai as she was ill.

I have come away inspired to do more.

FlightPack · 27/04/2019 22:30

I was there last night. Bit 😮 to be told it was off at the Quakers but was swiftly directed to the new venue. It had taken me 2 hours to get there, so was relieved it wasn't wasted journey. Well done for getting it sorted last minute. It all seemed to go smoothly in the end. The speeches were fascinating. It really is a an absolute scandal what is happening. Do watch the videos when they are released. Hearing from those who are or have worked closely with trans children and their families is really worthwhile.

AcidityRegulated · 27/04/2019 22:54

Glad to hear it went ahead.

Ironically, I hear that the Lancaster meeting tonight was held in a Quaker meeting house....

ImNotNigel · 27/04/2019 22:56

Glad to hear it was a success. Well done to all the speakers and hard working organisers.

BingBongSong · 27/04/2019 23:07

Yes, I'm really looking forward to seeing the videos. Going to the WPUK meeting in Liverpool last year really helped me to speak out more about what is happening with regard to the GRA reforms, and it felt such a relief to meet like-minded women at the meeting (I also bought a Contigo for hot drinks on the back of a MNer's recommendation Grin ).

I shared Michele Moore's talk from a previous WPUK meeting and had some shocked responses from friends and colleagues.

I think the greater disgrace is that men repeatedly try to stop women speaking and meeting. In a democracy yet they have no shame about bullying and silencing women. Misogynists, one and all.

AcidityRegulated · 27/04/2019 23:24

Archery the Quakers cancelled Liverpool's meeting, but not Lancaster. For some reason.

ArcheryAnnie · 27/04/2019 23:38

Acidity argh, that's what I meant, thank you! I got them muddled! I shall report my own post.

Lancaster Quakers - many apologies for casting aspertions on you, and thank you for hosting the meeting, whatever your own opinions on the subject. We're never going to get out of this current conflict if we can't discuss things.

Liverpool Quakers - it's you I'm disappointed by. You are supposed to be good at bringing people together, not censoring and silencing women.

FlightPack · 28/04/2019 00:18

The venue details weren't released until 4 pm ish so the activists who got it shut down, got in there quick sharp. It's a shame they didn't instead come to the meeting and engage in respectful dialogue. They would have been welcomed, I'm sure.
