I thought that some posters here might have some questions for her

Not sure how much time is left, so you will have to be quick

Just for the record, the questions I asked were as follows:

1st question

Hi Philippa

I am very interested to understand your perspective on the subject of satanic ritual abuse.

Do you believe that it is a moral panic that is a threat to our democracy that has influenced both the Brexit referendum and the US elections or do you share the view of your colleagues at the Bowlby Centre that satanists are traumatising children by using trauma based mind control so they can take over the world?

I am asking as you trained at the Bowlby Centre, a previously reputable organisation, that has been much derided by Private Eye magazine and others of late for running courses about satanic ritual abuse as if it is a real thing rather than a sequelae of quack therapy that produces false memories.

I am also interested to learn your opinions regarding dissociative identity disorder / multiple personality disorder, a controversial disorder dismissed as iatrogenic by rationalists that is also associated with quack therapy and false memories of satanic ritual abuse.

Also your husband Grayson has appeared in various events alongside Valerie Sinason one of the most vocal proponents of conspiracy theories regarding satanic ritual abuse.

Given that conspiracy theories regarding SRA have played a part in the US elections (false accusations of satanic ritual abuse against Hilary Clinton - known as Pizzagate) and the Brexit referendum (false accusations of SRA against Edward Heath) I think it is important and urgent for all those promoting these conspiracies to place their cards on the table.

Looking forward to your reply

2nd question:

Philippa

If you do not want to answer my question regarding conspiracy theories about satanic ritual abuse, perhaps you would consider answering another question?

In your book The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read

you recommend the book Play from your Fucking Heart by the controversial psychotherapist (many say cult leader) Jerry Hyde.

Given that Hyde openly promotes “tantra” (of the new age sexual variety) and illegal drug use as methods of psychotherapy I wondered

a) how you came to be acquainted with Hyde’s book
b) whether you had concerns about vulnerable people being harmed via your recommendation
c) whether you believe that “tantra” and illegal drug use constitute valid models of psychotherapy

Thanks

Sadly, regarding both questions, answer came there none

Somebody else who assumed that coming here would be an easy ride with tea and biscuits because well it's just some women, innit?

Wanker.

I'd ask her if she has noticed if her husband gets a boner when he is wearing...

No...I've lost the will to live...

Philippa Perry promotes the self described "gonzo" psychotherapist Jerry Hyde

Unfortunately Hyde is involved with some very controversial spiritual movements with "tantric" and "shamanic" elements

The archive is a fascinating source of information about Hyde

Interested researchers can check him out here

also here where he talks about his experiments with drugs and openly states that he stole his ideas from Native American ceremonies and also talks about meeting Grayson Perry over 15 years ago

If I could issue a warning about dangerous therapists linked to abusive cults I would warn people about getting involved with therapists who use sex, drugs and appropriated indigenous tribal ceremonies in their therapeutic repertoire.

Hyde ticks all the boxes and I am horrified, yet unsurprised, that Philippa Perry recommends his book in her book.

Having said that, I cannot and would not claim that Perry is a bad person. I do not know her and the therapeutic field is full of useful idiots and deluded people. I think that, in promoting Hyde to her readers, she is exposing her readers to significant risks.

Hyde is also involved in a controversial o=movement called Spirit Horse that has a "Aphrodite's Temple" that goes under the brand "Surrender Tantra"

I am extremely concerned about Surrender Tantra for reasons that some posters here will be familiar with

Hm. I do some volunteering for a Buddhist group. Tantra, by all accounts, is an area that attracts some very damaged, misguided and potentially dangerous people/teachers. (I understand that a very small minority of people may find it of benefit, but with many, many caveats and cautions in place.)

Cults are frighteningly common, far more religious schools/groups/teachers show cultish traits than one would think. I wish critical thinking was taught on this subject in particular. Lots of people who are perfectly sensible in other areas seem to abandon common sense when it comes to 'spirituality'.

umm, let's not call a woman X's wife on the feminist board
