The Times 10th April - Mumsnet and Hayden's court order

Anyone got a share token?

It's the talk of Twitter with some cracking quotes from SH, I understand.

ttps://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/mumsnet-ordered-to-reveal-name-of-user-in-row-with-trans-activist-stephanie-hayden-rzmvl2q8z

'No current criminal convictions' -love it.

'No current criminal convictions' -love it.

That was my favourite line too.

nauticant · 10/04/2019 11:46

Unsurprisingly it's the one people are talking about whether it's under the article, here, on twitter, etc.

The Streisand Effect in action.

theOtherPamAyres · 10/04/2019 11:47

The comments in the Times and Twitter have picked up on Hayden's statement at the end of the article:

I have no current criminal convictions

They have also picked up on what sort of action the Judge ought to have taken. (ie Mumsnet supplying information directly to the court, not to a third party; a recognition that there is no obligation on Mumsnet to verify names etc given on registration)

I can imagine Mr Justice Davies holding his head in hands right now, hoping that SH will reflect on the publicity and shred the court order, never to return to the Queens Bench.

Three letters in the times about Mondays stories, from a retired endocrinologist, Peter Tatchell and Sarah Ditum.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 10/04/2019 11:51

That's a very cleverly phrased article.

criticised by activists for allowing posts that some trans people found “offensive or hateful”. Mumsnet said it believed in free speech so would continue to allow people to discuss “biology and scientific evidence”

Any other paper would have worded this with phrases like "hotbed of transphobia", "denying transpeoples existence" etc

Has done a great job of highlighting things like thought police, discussing biology =/= hate speech, and that Steph is well known for pulling these kinds of stunts with people who try and call Steph out.

As always, the Times are a beacon of sanity and plain speech in this bleak fucking world. Never did I think I would be saying that.

Oh I'm so sick of the sound of Hayden's name. However has anyone got any fun twitter links?

nauticant · 10/04/2019 11:59

For you terfsandwich:

I thought trying to find out the name of someone that they are not currently identifying as was the terrible crime of dead naming? And it’s doxxing to ever mention a previous identity online even if that person still uses it in some situations?

Wasn’t this exact same person on here last week complaining about Caroline Farrow discussing someone who was abusing her and harassing her online because it was unfair and hateful to mention people’s personal info however horrible they’re being? I’m so confused Hmm

terfsandwich · 10/04/2019 12:04

Oh no nauticant! I meant on the golfer.

(Kittens, ugh!)

terfsandwich · 10/04/2019 12:05

But thank you kindly nonetheless.

However, Justine Roberts, the website’s founder, said: “Clearly, if we thought the details we released might be used maliciously, we would be happy to contest the order if one of our users asked us to do so.”

Am I to read this as basically, it was a fake name used? As obviously TRAs requesting users details would be used maliciously, but if there is nothing to use, no issue with releasing details?

Justines comments on there are fab.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 10/04/2019 12:13

Two threads discussing this? Really? Don’t give the attention seekers what they want. Everyone knows what kind of person they really are now, jobs done:

I was watching Nightmare neighbours next door on the yooootoob earlier. There was this one story where this guy wrote poison pen letters to himself to get his neighbour in trouble. Some right pieces of work out there. Neighbour ended up with a conviction for it, but it was quashed a couple of years later with the help of handwriting experts. Truth will out and all that. Truth will out.

angelunderneath · 10/04/2019 12:33

I lurk about on the feminism boards and was aware of SH but had no idea about their past and their previous activity until the thread concerning the court order. It’s all I see/think when they are mentioned now!

Xenia · 10/04/2019 12:39

Well done The Times and also MN for waiting until there was a court order.

Mumsnet is taking the right stance on this - in favour of free speech. We should be allowed to call a spade a spade. Women i.e. half the population feel very very strongly about this issue and have a right to express their views and will not be backing down just because transactivists wantto shut women up. Men always want to shut women up - nothing changes except that we won't be silenced.
That does not mean I don't feel huge sympathy for thsoe born witin the wrong body and I do support existing English law on this (but not the proposed change to the law). It must be an awful condition to have but it should not be used in ways that damage half the population i.e. women.

misscockerspaniel · 10/04/2019 12:47

The Times lists a number of legal cases/police matters. Didn't Hayden also commence proceedings against a transsexual (solicitor?) last year?

Terfing · 10/04/2019 12:51

I think there something interesting said if you read between the lines on that Times article...

DancingRaven · 10/04/2019 13:06

Hayden actions so far:

Proceedings against a transsexual solicitor

Proceedings against Glinner (now dropped)

Proceedings against mumsnet (assumed dropped)

Proceedings against Kate Scottow (ongoing)

Proceedings against Mail on Sunday (ongoing)

I'll be honest - this ruling has worried me somewhat. MNHQ definitely know my full name and address, as I was part of the Christmas present swap scheme a couple of times.

HorsewithnoLycra · 10/04/2019 13:30

(Kittens, ugh!)

The kitphobia is palpable.

How can you live with yourself?

HorsewithnoLycra · 10/04/2019 13:31

Not All Kittens Are Like That.

I believe that unless you gave MN express permission to keep those details they will have been deleted/destroyed by now. Only your registration/profile information is available for MN to hand over if compelled to.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 10/04/2019 13:34

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

MNHQ have said they’ll contest any such application if you want them to. In this case, they were not asked to, the user did not contest and neither did MN. The person didn’t win anything, they paid £255 for details that nobody contested giving.
