Boston Marathon - Transwomen

https://runningmagazine.ca/sections/runs-races/first-three-transgender-women-preparing-race-boston-marathon/

At least three trans women have "qualified" to run the Boston Marathon by running Women's Qualifying times. At least one is self ID only and takes no hormones.

Bio males who can't run the men's qualifying time, taking places and opportunities from women. And so it goes again. Hmm

The piece describes 'barriers that are coming down' and written by a woman, to boot.

Traitor.

megletthesecond · 06/04/2019 23:22

Barriers come down for trans women but go up for women. Yay Hmm.

littlbrowndog · 06/04/2019 23:23

Some guys running in women’s race.
Brave stunning cheats

littlbrowndog · 06/04/2019 23:23

Wtaf barriers to what

The shops

KatvonHostileExtremist · 06/04/2019 23:30

Ugh at the little girl outfit, compete with hello kitty bag.

Shudder

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 06/04/2019 23:32

That is so annoying. It is really hard to get into Boston and they’ve just taken the place of 3 women. This is disgusting.

TinDogTavern · 06/04/2019 23:32

Apparently without irony, the USATF (track and field organisation) encourages the acceptance of trans athletes in their self ID categories, provided no award or prize money is at stake. So they know that women are being disadvantaged but when it comes to e.g. Boston places, it doesn't matter. Move over, women. AGAIN.

OccasionalKite · 06/04/2019 23:35

Men robbing women. Again.

littlbrowndog · 06/04/2019 23:38

Bit like me running in p7 sports day.

I would win everything

But hey I actually have a brain and use it and don’t think I have to,show everyone how brave and stunning I am

BesmirchingMotherhood · 06/04/2019 23:39

That’s a year old story just FYI.

OccasionalKite · 06/04/2019 23:44

It's ongoing, though! (E.g. see current TRA snit about women declaring themselves, very honestly, to be genderfree.

Apparently, when women decide their own gender status, it's not fair and can and should not be done, wah wah wah.)

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 07/04/2019 13:35

So brave, much stunning.

GabrielleNelson · 07/04/2019 14:05

I'm just watching the Boat Race coverage on the BBC. They did a test on two elite athletes from other sports, one male, one female. They are both exceptionally fit but the difference in performance and physiological measurements was considerable. If a transwoman ended up on the women's team surely it would give them a huge advantage.

S1naidSucks · 07/04/2019 14:12

They did a test on two elite athletes from other sports, one male, one female.

Now, that’s very interesting. I’m sure certain overly represented (percentage ways) members of the BBC were quietly spitting feathers at that being on.

Oh hang on! I know why there was a difference! That was between a woman and man. If they run the test again, but the non woman identifies as a transwoman this time, all the differences will disappear or at least be less obvious. That’s science innit? 😉

frazzled1 · 07/04/2019 14:31

Not forgetting the footnote:

(UPDATE April 10, 2018: An earlier version of this story stated that Romer, Gapin and Fisher are the first transgender women to qualify for and enter the Boston marathon. That information was not accurate. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.)

So not the first and presumably more have qualified by now.

Bio males taking away opportunities from bio females. Same as it ever was.

GabrielleNelson · 07/04/2019 14:32

I don't know. It's so blindingly obvious looking at this. The female rowers are phenomenal and far fitter than 99.999% of the population but the male rowers are taller and have huge muscles and far greater strength. How anyone can argue about this is beyond me.

R0wantrees · 07/04/2019 14:46

Male transpeople who self-id as women were first enabled to run in the Boston women's marathon last year.

thread (its named 2nd version as the first was derailed/reported/zapped etc):

Paula Radcliffe speaks:

"The serious significance here is worse because Boston is notoriously difficult to qualify for. Opening women’s QT’s up to any male who ‘self-identifies’ as female is unfair because the end result will be that female BQT’s are made harder due to the added numbers achieving them".

Estcarpwitch · 07/04/2019 18:53

I sadly hope that all the transwomen who are running the race take every top spot. Then maybe there will be a sufficient outcry about the inherent unfairness of allowing male bodied people to run in a women's race. Then maybe someone will say enough! This must stop!

Redshoeblueshoe · 07/04/2019 19:00

Or next year maybe all TW will take all the women's places Sad

S1naidSucks · 07/04/2019 19:06

I strongly suspect they will hold back and ‘loss’ the top spot to a woman. This will ‘prove’ that transwomen don’t have a disadvantage. Hmm

FermatsTheorem · 07/04/2019 20:17

The one time quoted in the article, just under the 3.45 qualifying mark, won't get them anywhere near the top places. I think to qualify for the women's elite class you have to put in a 2.40 or under.

Which doesn't alter either the principle of the thing (nothing to stop a good male runner, as opposed to a crap one, self ID-ing and scooping the prizes) or the fact that this is 3 women done out of marathon places they would otherwise have qualified for.

(The boat race is a good example to give - rowing really favours tall, heavy people who can bulk up their muscles easily. For instance, at over 6'2", that Aussie rules footballer, or the American college basketball player would have a huge advantage in rowing once they'd picked up the technique.)

S1naidSucks · 07/04/2019 21:35

or the fact that this is 3 women done out of marathon places they would otherwise have qualified for.

That’s it, exactly. It’s not just about the fact that brilliant women will lose to these people, but that the other excellent female runners won’t even get a place. Imagine training your hardest and being Tod you’re not good enough because the person that identifies as a woman has beat you. How do you find the strength and determination to keep on in your sport if you don’t even get a fair chance.

Izzadoraduncancan · 07/04/2019 21:41

Just wondering as a comparison.... how are transmen represented in sporting achievements?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/04/2019 22:24

I am informed by a contact that at least one of the people who run the Boat Race is very much opposed to men competing against women and the likely catastrophic effect on most sport for women and girls.
