Government Enquiry into Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria

The Minister announced that there would be an Enquiry, in Sept 2018.

Does anyone know what happened to it or know of any organisation that has been consulted?

Or did it never happen? Was it a 'tactical' announcement to silence the public with false promises?

Looking rather like hollow promises now.

I suspect the dodgy ones in the civil service will have done all they can to stop this. There are some remarkably senior people with an obsession for removing women's rights to sex segregated changing rooms / toilets. I have no doubt they will be rushing to ensure that nobody questions, let alone stops the transitioning of children.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 02/04/2019 13:45

Penny Mordaunt carefully ignored the question about the enquiry.

Whatisthisfuckery · 02/04/2019 13:48

My belief is that they did it, honest, but the dog ate it.

I think truthisarevolutionaryact has it pretty much spot on.

This is a scandal.

The need for an enquiry is even more pressing following the report from the Tavistock, and the actions of Mermaids to silence people who ask questions. It should also be seen in the context of Mordaunt's woeful response to Mumsnet questions.

We will not go away when it comes to Child Protection.

It really needs Opposition MPs to ask questions of the Minister in Parliament.

Since Her Majesty's Opposition is so inept to recognise an Open Goal provided by the Conservatives, it would be a public service if the Daily Mail, Times, Telegraph or Private Eye pick up on this untrustworthy government's fancy footwork.

What else can be done?

It reminds me of advice often given out during legal training: "never ask a question you don't already know the answer to".

The reason why they're obstructing any inquiry is that they know it will reveal a serious and intractable problem they have no idea how to tackle. Although, clearly, reasonable solutions would involve a lot of work and money, alongside stirring up a hornets' nest of aggressive and unreasonable individuals. With the added bonus of doing this during this Brexit calamity.

cwg1 · 02/04/2019 14:44

Please keep writing to your MPs. Point out that it hasn't happened and ask them - whatever their own position on the matter - to forward your concerns to Penny Mordaunt.

Would another petition be worth trying? We passed the 10,000 mark for the two previous ones - I think we could do it again, and then the government has to respond.

I'm sorry to bang on about this, but, in the end, it's our legislators who will decide this. To be blunt, one of their first defences will be 'this hasn't been raised in my constituency/only one or two constituents have written to me.'

FWRers are making tremendous efforts, we need to keep pushing as much as we can.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 02/04/2019 14:45

The Government are not going to help with this.

CallMeWoman · 02/04/2019 15:26

My MP has refused to contact Penny Mordaunt on my behalf. I don't know where to go from that, really.

cwg1 · 02/04/2019 15:50

CallMeWoman I've just looked on the parliament.UK website under 'who should I contact with my issue?'. You are able to contact ministers directly on matters relevant to their ministerial responsibilities. For your own MP - that's shocking. I'd seriously consider a complaint to their party's head office or their whips' office.

Fallingirl · 02/04/2019 16:41

I am equally concernd they may get researchers with dubious track records to do it.

Sally Hines and Meg John Barker are both researchers with “expertise” in in the field of gender.

CallMeWoman · 02/04/2019 19:31

cwg1 I'm pretty angry about it tbh. I will write to PM myself and look into a complaint.

OhHolyJesus · 02/04/2019 20:40

I'll write to my MP and Penny Mordant. Anyone else? Is there still a minister for children and families? Simon Stevens of NHS?

If we mobilise and write lots of strongly worded letters we risk getting standard or stock replies from a researcher but we can at least make a nuisance of ourselves and see where it gets us.

I haven't signed a petition on this yet calling for an investigation so if there are any still open for signatures please send the link xx

CallMeWoman · 02/04/2019 21:05

I'm happy to share my letter to my MP, I will be adapting it for Penny Mordaunt.

cwg1 · 02/04/2019 22:32

OhHolyJesus Sorry - I wasn't very clear. The previous petitions were about prisons and consultation with women about gender ID. Yes, the responses were very predictable, but the gov't has to make a response and, therefore, can't claim there's been no concern. Also, I think they're useful for keeping up the GC profile generally.

I'm no more sanguine about the government than anyone else and I appreciate PPs' concerns, but Penny M did promise this and I think she should be held to that promise. I also agree that we'll probably get a lot of C&P answers. I don't want to waste anyone's time, but as I said before, I think we have to try to lobby MPs as much as we can.

Good idea about the minister for children and families - it's currently Nadhim Zahawi.
